Studdering...like it is not getting fuel. HELP
I just recently put an ITR motor in my hatch and it has started studdering like it is not getting fuel. It has a tendency to backfire also. I have already replaced the fuel filter. The fuel pump is the factory CX but from what I hear, it is the same as the GSR pump. The idol also surges up and down by about 100 rpm. I am using a p72 ECU from a GSR. I sent off a p30 to get the stage 2 hondata and hopefully that will help some of the problems. Any suggestions on what it might be would be greatly appreciated.
The car pretty much does it all the time. I have not replaced the coil or the distributor. It did not do it when I first put the motor in. It just started a few weeks ago.
I just went and pulled the distributor cap and it looks fairly worn so I went to swap it with my roommates 95 b18c1 cap. His cap is slightly different than mine. The top screw holes on his was slightly wider than mine. Arn't all B series caps the same? I'm not sure what motor my distributor came off of since my motor was converted over to obd 1 when I bought it.
I don't believe all the caps are the same, try swapping the coil or getting a msd cap and an external msd coil. Also try swapping the plugs.
Mine did the same thing like 2 months after the swap just changed the plugs and it was fine

I changed the distributor and it did not help. Going to try the fuel pump and take out the V-AFC tonight and see if it helps. Plugs tomorrow if it does not resolve it. Anything else that I maybe over looking?

Are you throwing any codes or anything since this happened? Also, when you was running right, do you remember if you added anything to the car or changed out anything that would cause this problem. By the way, have you checked your ignition timing?
Well, I put in a different fuel pump and changed the plugs. No difference. It still studders. I then took out the V-AFC and now the check engine light comes on when I get into Vtec. Any clues on what it could be?

I had a similar problem just recently. My timing was off a notch, causing my motor to act sort of like what you described. Just a thought.

It looks like it maybe off a tooth on the timing. Going to move the timing belt today and see if it helps. Thanks.

Changed the wiring harness and the timing. The motor still surges but it idols smoothly. Now when the car gets into vtec, the check engine light comes on (code 22 for vtec oil pressure sensor). The japanese ITR motor does not have a vtec oil pressure sensor. Do you think because I do not have an oil pressure sensor it will throw this code and cause it to surge? I am going to get a vtec solinoid with oil pressure sensor tomorrow and try it. Any suggestions?
