I have a 89 si hatch with a d16y8 in it and have converted it to obd 1 with a p28. I have no engine lights. The car starts up hard and then dies at about 1500 rpms. please help

 

So does it idle until you hit it and once 1500RPM comes around it dies?
It idles hard and dies?
Instantly revs and dies?

Cam Timing on?
Distributor Timing on?

Are you running the correct maps for a Y8 on the P28? Yes, Y8 maps are different enough from the D16Z6 to have it in your best interest to run the correct one.

 

It turns over for a while and then starts, idles automaticly to about 1500 cause its cold at which point it kills. I am running the y8 map. Does it really sound like a map problem?

 

No it doesn't sound like a map problem, it's just a good thing to clear. Hmm...time to let the brain think...
