High Speed Noise
I have purchased a used 2002 Civic. It was obviously in a wreck or it ran over something, and I replaced the strut on one wheel which was still damaged.
I get a high speed noise that appears at 50-65 mph then fades over 65 mph. It sounds like this MMMMMMM------MMMMMMM-------MMMMMMMM. And it has gotten progressively worse as time goes on.
I took the car to the Honda dealer for checkup and auto tech said the vehicle is mechanically sound and its a wheel problem.
However, when I took the car to fix the strut, the mechanic (at a different place) told me if the noise doesn't leave, then its a mount problem near the strut replaced).
When I took the car to get new tires, the tire guy said the noise seemed to him simliar to what big trucks sometimes get.
Any ideas on who is right about the problem?

Sounds like what happened to my friends jetta, which turned out to be the wheel bearing.
I doubt it would be the motor mount tho, cause it was be at a certain RPM, not speed where u had the problem.
U didnt by chance put 33' super knoby tires on? cause those sometimes make bad sounds:p
* i hope u did, cause i wanna see an Em2 on 33's.

I'm gonna call wheel bearing on this one. Jack your car up and spin the wheel by hand slowly... feel any grinding/rumbling, or "gritty" resistance?
Also, grab the top of the wheel with one hand and the bottom with the other and rock the wheel, top-to-bottom. Repeat side-to-side. Any "free play"? Knackered wheel bearing.
Not a fool-proof test to prove it is a wheel bearing that's collapsed, but it's a good indicator if you do have any of these symptoms.
Just a thought... give it a try.
