Default Is this wrecked 97 LX worth $900?

Found a local add of a guy selling this 97 Accord LX for $1500. It is a 4cy. 5spd with 90k miles. I offered him $800 and he came back with the best he can do is $1000. I am going to wait a week or so and offer him $900. He has R1 Racing seats(pair) Front strut bar, AEM cold air intake, coilovers with stock shocks , Tons of wires from stereo/tv install, huge wing, airbags were installed but went bad(that is why he switched to the coilovers. Everything besides the 4 bags are included in the car(lines, switches, compressor, tank, etc.)

I will most likely sell off most of the aftermarket stuff. I can get all the collision parts including paint for $2k at most...may be able to re-use some of the stuff he removed. These cars seem to be going for $5-6k from a private party in my area and dealers are listing nice ones around $8500. I should be able to fix it up nicely for $2900 total invested(including vehicle price) and a few weeks of my time in the evening.

sounds like a good deal. What kind of wreck and how serious the wreck would determine if it's a good buy or not. If that front part of the frame is totally off, i wouldn't waste my time on it.

To me, the only thing i see that is miss is just the front bumper cover, bar, some cooling and a/c stuff and some headlights. If that is it, then i would jump on it and throw that wing in the trash.

The dude wasn't paying attention in traffic and rolled under a SUV. Bumper of the suv hit the headlight/grill level messing up the top of the bumper, grill, headlights, rad, ac condensor, rad support and hood. Bags went off and cracked windshield. Frame fine since impact was higher than the bumper support. If I buy everything new $1600 including bags and control module. But I should be able to find some stuff used a little cheaper. Maybe some aftermarket headlights and bumper/corner lights to save on cost.

you can fix that with JY pars and have a pretty reliable daily driver

I had a 94 rebuilt from salvage at 60K and I sold it this year with 145K on it and everything was working just fine.....

The interesting thing I found is it is way cheaper to get new aftermarket OEM replicas rather than used parts from a jy. Mostly because no one around here seems to have any of these cars in their yards...and if they do they were wrecked in the front. Guess accord drivers are bad drivers. haha. No offense

What do airbags have to do with coilovers? But on the topic, if there isn't major frame damage, I'd buy it.

Not airbags for the SRS...airbags as in suspension. You know hittin the switches so you can look like a gangsta! I guess they actual airbag that goes inplace of the shock/spring corroded when it sat for the winter and they wouldn't hold air. Car still has all the selonoids, plexiglass switch box, holes, air tank, compressor and other stuff...just not the actual bags. It's basically a universal kit from what I see so i can probably sell it on ebay and they will just need to get the bags specific to their car. I think full kits run around 2 grand for a decent one. Problem is he replaced them with the gay coilovers that just mount to the stock shocks so i will need to replace those with something a little better. If the springs are decent I might be able to get away with just getting some aftermarket shocks. I just don't want to drop a grand for decent coilovers on a car for my wife.

looks good. i would jump on the deal. but make sure you have the time to invest into a car like this. its going to take some elbow grease

P.S. next time you go take a look at the car you should show up with 800 in cash or something and say you'll take it off his hands right now for cash and if hes desperate enough to get rid of it it will probably work. thats how my friends always do it and it works all the time 80% of the time. haha. my friend did that and got a 95 BMW 325is for $6000

I second that. Sell the parts and use the money to fix it. If you do the radiator and bumper yourself you can save more money too, it's not that hard if you have the service manual, just take it to a good mechanic or if you have hookups with techs; have em look at it to see if there are any more problems with it. Oh btw, just be careful with some aftermarket stuff. Good luck.

If the frame is even off by 1/8 of an inch, I wouldn't bother. Think of it this way....can you screw in a bolt if the hole is off by 1 division of a ruler? Especially if it's crucial **** like your suspension and steering geometry? My wife's car got hit and the frame rail was pushed in exactly that..1/8". Biggest reason why they totalled it out, cost WAY too much to repair. (Car's worth 9,000 cost to fix they estimated at 7,900.)

Of course, assuming that the frame has damage to it...much less any warping of the frame I wouldn't touch the car. My first car a white EF9 HHEEEELLLA CLEAN was considered totaled because the engine frame was warped (repairs a tad more than the car). If it's just the front bumper that just toppled over and the radiator just dropped no biggie. How bad was the accident anyway?

I would never buy any car that has been wrecked, simply because you won't know exactly how much damage was caused by the accident. Judging by the pic, I can tell you that there is a very good possibility of damage you might not notice, such as to the steering/suspension, and damage to either of those would make the car pretty much undriveable and expensive to repair...The first thing I would do is get an estimate of how much it will cost you to repair the damage, and if it is higher than the value of the car, tell him to keep the car and sell it to a junkyard.
