D15b or b7?
I just bought a 94 dx the other day, and while I was cleaning the engine bay I noticed that the engine code reads D15b. correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't it say b7? Also, if it is a D15b, it looks like someone took the vtec solenoid off the motor and put some kind of block off plate over it. I know what the difference is between the d15b and the b7, my question is why would someone do that??? Someone help me out!!
i know, it was odd to me too. I bought the car from a good friend of mine, but he knows nothing about cars. I know the motor came from a salvage yard because the valve cover has some code written with a red paint pen. Any ideas???

i believe the D15b is from Japan at least when i got one that was one of them low miler ones it came from Japan and i have a 95 DX 2dr which has the B7 stock. i had asked the guy about it only being the D15B and he explained that thats the Japan version of the B7 basically. Also neither the D15B7 or the D15B are VTEC engines. they are both Non-VTEC SOHC 1.5L's. In the 92-95 i believe all the VTEC's are the D16's though i may be alittle off about that last sentence.

BS Racing - You are WRONG. The d15b is the JDM version of the USDM d16z6 and IS a SOHC VTEC motor.
Also it was sated that there was a "block off plate" for a VTEC solenoid then obviously it IS a vtec motor as there would not be a place on the head for it if it didnt have vtec.
Only possible answer to this is that there was a motor swap done and you got a SWEET deal jdmboxrocket!!

Or there is something wrong with the engine...he could have gotten a good deal, or he could have gotten screwed over.
I'm hoping everything turns out ok, but the plate in place of the VTEC solenoid makes me a little worried.
