Default problem with parking brakes

So I was driving on a hill and I was at a red light and I decided to test my parking brakes. It was a downhill and I put my brakes on and I let go of the brakes and I started to slide, and I'm thinking, wtf mate? So I tried rolling downhill without the parking brakes and it was only a little faster than with the parking brakes, so my conclusion would be that my parking brakes suck! Also, I had accidentally pushed my car backwards a little with the parking brakes were engaged a day before when I was adjusting my headlights. I was thinking, wait, my car isn't suppose to move like that with the parking brakes.

So my question here is, what could be wrong with the parking brakes and how can I fix it? Would I need to buy a new parking brake cable and install it or just tighten the parking brakes? Thanks mates!

remove armrest. connected to the e brake there is a nut, trying adjusting that to help your ebrake. but generally on a big hill u might want to leave the car in gear and of course turn the wheels towards the curb

downhill = towards the curb, uphill = away from the curb....LOL @ driver's ed.

being a 4dr ex you should have rear disk. You have a few things to check before adjusting that cable. It is not uncommon for the rear caliper slide pins to seize. When they do the ebrakes stop working. The next thing would be a locked up ebrake mech in the caliper(you would have to replace the caliper). The last thing would be the ebrake cable is seized. To fix the first problem you have to remove the caliper from is bracket and use heat to work the slide pins out of the bracket. Replace the pins and the rubber guide/seal.Re lube with a good synthetic pin grease after you clean out all the old grease run the puck back in and reassemble.

Look here this is a blow up of the rear brake assy the slide pins are #22,#38 the guides/seals #21 these all are avil aftermarket
