Knew a guy that did that in his stock y8. He threw a rod.

can't be good.....might not notice anything now, but on the long run, it might have shortened the life of the engine. This is why u get a B and then u can rev to 8k+ no problems

Its just a d15b7.... its probably fine, but if something goes wrong later on down the road, you can blame this and then get a b18 or something, or just rplace what needs replacing since its cheap anyway. But if its running fine now, dont worry about it for now consider yourself lucky

a gutted hatch with a strong single slam, in my opnion could keep up with a z3. Also to consider most z3's are drivven by pusseys, and are usually automatic.

You guys were probably racing the slow ones. There are two flavors of Z3's.

Weak sauce 4 cylinder and then there is the M. Same inline 6 that came in the M3.

True but the OP's problem is that he mis-shifted at redline so in any motor it will shoot pass the limiter.

OP: If your car still runs normal then you are lucky but there is probably some extra wear because of it.

If you don't hear any popping, clicking, or thunking by now it's fine.

I put my GTI in at about 9k which backed off to 8 or so b4 I clutched( consider this is a 6.5k redline) when I misshifted and it was fine.

Sometimes it doesn't hurt, sometimes it does. If it does you'll hear it or will be losing oil or something...you'll definately know about it.

Don't worry about it if you don't hear anything or aren't losing oil, coolant, etc.

it's fine for now, but start saving for another motor. my old d16a6 lasted 2 months after it revved to 9.5k+ a few times (the previous owner told me he did this AFTER i bought the car ), then spun a rod bearing. also, in another friend's a6, he would rev to 8k when racing (though i dont know why), and his motor lasted a couple months like that.
it'll be alright for right now...just keep an eye out for metal shavings in your oil.

Yeah, if you ddin't **** any parts or hear any parts about to **** themselves out of your motor then you 're more than likely fine.

i've ran my B7 on a chipped P28 and revved to 8k for a few months. nothing really happen. its kinda pointless when the motor makes no power stock to that rev. motor stops at like 7k with power. atleast get underdrive pulleys. lighten flywheel. diff. valve springs and retainers. and header back exhaust. maybe a B16 throtle body. and you should be able to rev.

The ecu can only cut fuel to stop the motor from revving. It can't however stop the motor from revving up when the drivers messes up and shift from say 3rd to 2nd while meaning to go to 4th. Going 80-90mph and shifting to second will have the motor spinning quite a bit higher than the stock rev limit.

Yes, it can cut the fuel so you can't go past there, but engaging the clutch when you're in too low of a gear for the speed you're going is mechanical, the computer isn't involved at all with that, so it'll cut the fuel as soon as you engage the clutch, but there'll still be that time where it's the danger zone/redline.
