How many ITR owners here actually use 5w-30?
i have been using mobil 1 tri synth 5w30 for 4 years now, and my R is still running strong. Make sure to tell him to check the oil every 600 to 1000miles, since these engines do consume oil
BOOO ON SYNTHETICS AND DEALERS THAT SAY TO USE IT!!!!!!!!!
I used to use MObil 1 5W30, but i have switched back to the HOnda 10W30. Its cheaper and since i change my oil every 2500 and I burn a lot... Its a better choice for me.

but he should always use synthetic in the ITR
so why should he always use synthetic b-diddy?
... youre not a bandwagon guy are you that doesnt know why but what the heck synthetic is more expensive so it must be better?

Synthetic oil is ghey! I've been screaming this for years, and just now it seems people are wise enough to stop using it. Synthetic = premature destruction of rings, and, valve seals. I use good 'ol Castrol GTX 5W30 DRIVE HARD! And my ITR has 11k miles and barely uses any oil at all.
I'm using 5W-40 Honda full synthetic. Burns 1L every 10000 km with normal driving!!! I don't understand why you Americans have problems with different engine oils.....
Maybe Euro oils are much better quality.

Yes, I run 5-30W,,, I have run Honda 5-30W from the first change forl every 3K interval. When I hit 10K I went to 5-30W Mobil-1 Synthetic. So far so good. It eats between 1/4 to 1/2 a quart between changes. But, that seem normal when you consider how it is driven.
I dynoed right after a change but never noticed a HUGE HP gain due to Just oil or synthetic at that. Your cold first dyno runs WILL always be the faster higher HP producing runs.
I hope this doesn't turn into a synth/nat debate AGAIN!?

11,000 miles? How can you verify how well an oil does only in 11,000 miles? I have been using synthetic oil for over 40,000 miles and have not had to add a drop of Mobil 1. The motor has over 70,000 miles now and contrary to popular belief, the valve guide seals, piston rings and other "gaskets" have not "eaten" away.
btw, I drive it HARD as well.

I learned some very expensive lessons with synthetic oil in my lifetime. And since then, I avoid the stuff like the PLAUGE! I had an average mileage '86 Regal T-Type (about 78k on the clock) that was very well maintained. I got the car in 1993 at the end of my senior year in HS. I had some extra cash from my graduation gifts and I went out and got a TA44 turbo, '3 inch Kenne-bell downpipe, plugs, wires, filters, and a new set of shocks & tires (about $3K total). I had a mechanic install the turbo as well as my tune-up parts. He recomended Castrol Syntec since I'd be running almost 20 psi on a motor with 78K. Well I listened to this mechanics advice and within one week I had two spun main bearings, and blown turbo seals.
After my engine blew I took the car to a Turbo Regal expert who told me that the reason I blew the seals and spun bearings was due to the synthetic oil the other mechanic put in the car. 5 years later I bought a big block chevy (.30 over '69 396) to later find out that the previous owner ran synthetic oil in a fresh motor and my brand new big block had toast for rings. Synthetic sucks! Plain and simple, there is no success story in the world that could make me EVER use synth. And believe me I drive my cars hard. Organic oil is KING! Organic oil ownz joo synthetic crap!
I love how guys that have an ITR for 1 year and prior to getting it they weren't even car guys, come on here and preach to me about how good synth is.

Not to mention that you probably wouldn't be burning oil if you hadn't been using synthetic to start with.
my honda dealer(UK) told me to use the same 10w-40 semi-synthetic oil that i used in my b16a2. is this right? what oil does honda recommend in the US or elsewhere?
Honda Feo Type R(5w-30), my Honda dealer recommended engine oil. That's what I'm on especially when warranty is concerned. Cheers!

What Honda recommends and what you should use are 2 different stories. Imaging this scenario.
Synthetic oil leads to premature breakdown of seals and rings. Now the average person would just be daily driving, nothing hard, A to B. This makes for less wear on the seals. Now in 6-7 years, the car begins to burn oil. Well now its going to be 1500+ to repalce the seals and this should be done and that should be done... So they recommend that if you dotn want to fix it, look into a new vehicle. You get a new car, they take yours on trade, they fix your old car for cheap since its at cost. They make a big profit
They sell a new car, fis and sell your old one. The cycle begins anew...
Dont always listen to the dealer. Most are just out for one thing... $$$$
I used to use 5w 30, but then I was told to use 10w 40. I dont know which is better but im currently running 10w 40 mobil 1 synthetic.
I've used both synthetic and regular oil and I have noticed that when I drain the synthetic, it's still a bit golden and runs easily. When I drain regular it's black as night and flows thicker.
As far as it eating rings, well I used it in my Prelude for 150,000 miles and it ran the same 1/4 time when I sold it as it did brand new, so it didn't hurt that motor.
