Default Help me identify this part to identify this transmission

What the hell is this thing? I'm hoping to use this information to figure out what the hell kinda transmission this is...dude that I got it from claims it to be a GSR 5spd...has no idea what year or anything though. All that I know FOR SURE is it is:

YS1
Cable
5spd

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a picture of my actual transmission, but simply one like it...thank you.

I thought YS1 was the B16 tranny? Even if it is, it's still fast. Both the GSR and VB16's are very nice...

Ys1 came in all 92-93 integra's regardless of model! If you don't know, you'll have to open it up and start counting teeth to tell the difference.

Thanx for the correction.

Is there a tranny calculator for tB-series like there is for D-series?

To tell if my tranny was an Si, I put it in first and counted the # of rotaions on the input shaft it took to move the differential one time.

Thanks, Blue. I got the ***** to pull it off tonight (not knowing what it was) and as soon as I pulled it out, i was like "holy ****, I'm dumb"

However, now that I know what it is, what do the two fluid lines hook up to? And what do I need to make my cable/mechanical speedo cable work with it? Can I use the regular speedo cable?

By the way...I'm not about to open up that case. I HATE transmissions!

I'm not TOO concerned with which tranny the YS1 is out of anymore...thanks alot for the info though. now i'm just curious how to make it work (mostly, my concern now is that VSS)

Thanks, everyone...I can't wait to get this damn thing IN the car!

Lines run to Power Steering rack... I forget why... I'd just get a plain VSS that will fit/work and be done with it OR just don't hook up the lines (Do block them off though, just in case)

Well, when I had the VSS out and spun it, it seemed to work almost as a pump with the fluid that was in it. I'd hate for it to start dry-sucking (if that makes sense) and burn the thing out if that's possible.

it's going in an EF and I will not be running power steering.

On second though, I could take one line and hook them up to each other if I can make the lines fit...and it'll just a be a continuous revolution of fluid and it'll save me the money of getting a new VSS. (I'm installing on a budget, if you can't tell )

EDIT: missed your first reply.

I'm all about the budget. I always do my own work... tranny, motor swap, OBD1 conversion harness, etc. Loads of $$$ saved and I know I DID it RIGHT <- most important part

I'm all about doing it myself. That's why I'm an HT member.

I'll probably get a rubber hose and run it from one to the other. If nothing else it'll get me by until I can replace the piece later down the road and won't damage anything.

As for the cable, though, can I use my regular speedo cable to it? Screws right in and all?

And I'm about to learn the hassles of switching it all from OBD0 to OBD1...got my ECU harness-jumper, but now I'm making sure all the engine is OBD1...the dude who had the engine before me was all FUBAR...OBD1 here, OBD0 there...I wish he'd known what he was doing...

ummm no you are wrong. it will not work

you have to get a VSS Cluster and you are going to have to wire it up

you can get any B16 series cluster from A JDM ef8/9 (UKDM is cable driven), delSol vtec, Integra 94+, Civic Si 99/2000

I was basing it on the picture damn it. He said it looked like that so I assumed that it was cable driven. If his is electronic then you are correct.

Does yours look like this?

no, it doesn't have the electrical connector up to. It looks exactly like the one pictured...

I took a spare speedo cable that I had laying in the basement and plugged it in. It APPREARS to work, but will need what seems like a locking clip to hold it in...otherwise, it appears that it'll work...

Good. Yeah, I hate that little clip... I'm loosing it all the time! Mine doesn't even really hold the cable very well. Gonna think of a better replacement.

The lines were for "speed-assisted power-steering"..

It incorporates the speed sensor as a small pump to
increase line pressure in the power steering as vehicle speed increases..

I looped a line in between and added power steering fluid to
keep it lubricated..

What about going to Ace Hardware or something and just getting an e-clip...or c-clip? They call it an E, but personally, it looks like a C...
