wow that's some BS. Man my last car had a louder exhaust than my current one and have had cops right on my tail. not once have I ever been pulled over for noise. Actually I have never been pulled over. Not even for havin my middle brake light out.

also according to what I have read, anything behind the cat is legal as long as it doesn't exceed 95db and I couldn't find anything on this exhaust about how loud it is on that car.

i got an excessive noise ticket for my exhaust, and what i did was go to a local muffler shop and theyll most likely write u a not with a fake db test just to let you off, cause the muffler shops are on your side they hate the po so theyll do anything to keep their business going..

Call or email Greddy and ask for spacifics on the exhaust...also get the decible reading you will need to find out what the max is from your local pd then find out where to get it tested from them as well

Just bc an exhaust company says their product is 50 state legal doesn't mean it really is. There are a bunch of states that have laws that mention that it is illegal to modify your exhaust in anyway. In mass, cops have told me about this law and have given me tickets with just my ws2 exhaust, cat and stock header . If its shiny then they can pull you over.

i got a ticket in july for my exhaust too. they said the same things MurderV8s said. "...states that have laws that mention that it is illegal to modify your exhaust in anyway...If its shiny then they can pull you over." so i just paid the ticket. it was like $120.

A muffler does not in any way affect and smog related exhaust/emissions equipment. How does piping after the cat converter affect emissions and the exhaust coming from the motor, other than the increase in noise? Thats why its generally called a cat-back exhaust, yes techincally its still part of the whole exhaust system, but anything after the cat is desigened for noise, not for emissions control.

I got the same car with the EVO2 exhaust too. Greddy says its supposed to stay under 95db at all times. So I know its a street legal exhaust.

Put it this way, this is a law that is used by cops to be ablt to pull you over and bust you for other violations which could be anything.

Dude I think your screwed.
I searched for NY laws and found this.

31. Mufflers and exhaust systems. Prevention of noise. Every motor
vehicle, operated or driven upon the highways of the state, shall at all
times be equipped with an adequate muffler and exhaust system in
constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or
unusual noise and no such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped
with a cut-out, bypass, or similar device. No person shall modify the
muffler or exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will
amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor or exhaust system of
such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler or exhaust system
originally installed on the vehicle and such original muffler and
exhaust system shall comply with all the requirements of this section.

A muffler is a device consisting of a series of chambers or baffle
plates, or other mechanical design for the purpose of receiving exhaust
gas from an internal combustion engine, and effective in reducing noise.
An exhaust system is a series of mechanical devices for the purpose of
receiving exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine and expelling
it into the atmosphere.

Ouch, move to Tennessee, more specifically Maury County. They don't even check for the cat. There are so many others out here twice as loud as mine and they never get pulled over. See the big thing down here is trucks with loud exhausts (holy christ I mean LOUD) but go over to Murfreesboro (college town) and there are loud as hell Hondas and Nissans EVERYWHERE and they don't get pulled over there either. My brother never did when he lived there with the old 95 EX coupe with an uber loud APC muffler.

My suggestion is a sport silencer muffler or something. You can probably get a silencer for your current muffler.

Yeah, it sucks. Meh, I don't hate cops they're just doing there job. Without em we wouldn't have order. Then again, it's just a few cops are like that. I was told with my car that I'm going to get a ticket in the first week.

(I have a carbon fiber hood, carbon fiber lip, with a 99-00 conversion on my yellow hatchback.) I'll show photos later.

my old 85 Sunbird didn't have a cat. Like I said, in my county, they check almost nothing. Hell, my new hatch hasn't even been checked for anything.
