Default Oil in plugs

I just bought a 89 civic 4 door as my winter beater and i was checking the spark plugs and when i pulled one out it was drenched in oil. What exactly does that mean? and i checked the oil, there is none in the car.

thanks.

Well if you don't fix the leak, I would add new oil and filter and keep tabs on the oil level daily.

Is it expensive to fix the leak? I mean this is just for the winter, so I want to spend the least amount of money on this car..

valve cover gasket and plug tube grommets and all that stuff is really cheap. Definitely worth doing! I did it and even sd after finished it was one of the best things ive ever done for the car.

it could also be leaking from the rocker arm assembly. theres a seal that goes right at the bottom of the spark plug tube .

Nope just take the valve cover off and the grommets go on the bottom of the tubes, take them off and replace them. Its easy....trust me you can do it. I highly doubt that its the rocker arm assembly.

yes its #4 and to the naked eye you aint gonna be able to tell if its warped.... i've done several of these services to heads and that was always the problem its cheap and easy and if you continue to let the oil drip in there it will eventialy damage the plug wires

Yeah you can get a complete gasket set with the O rings and VC gasket for like $15 from Autozone. That should take care of your problem

Same problem with mine...
Replacing the valve cover gasket and top tube seals did not help. Must be the other seals that are under the rocker arms.
Has anyone replace these before? Do I have to remove the camshaft and rocker arm assembly? Or can I just loosen without removing them?
Thanks

That is away of getting it out for acouple minutes.

I had this same problem with a mazda 626 my gf drives. And YES it is the headgasket and grommets. I did this for 25 bucks and it has yet to leak again (over a year ago).

Its NOT the vc and tube seal gaskets FOR SURE! Read my previous post. Thats where you should start, but does not mean that it will fix it. If it doesn't, then its the tower seals.

why cant it be the rocker arm assembly????? my last d15b2 was leaking there alot!. you can normally tell if the tube is leaking from the top. theres usually oil leaking down.

problem fixed, it was the seals. The oil was only on the top of the plugs and i found oil in the grooves where the seals sit in the 1st and 4th. So I put new seals in and cleaned my spark plugs. Im too cheep right now to buy $80 in spark plugs.
