Default What car jack would you recommend?

My old craftsman jacked died and I need a replacement now. I'm looking for something that's reliable and fits under a lowered Honduh...priced under $150.

I think Craftsman counts the jack as a 'tool' still. You might be able to replace it for free.

Craftsman = life time waranty.

ya i looked into that, apparently its only a 90 day warranty on them. If it was lifetime I would have picked it up by now. I wish they had their lifetime on it

Oh, thanks for the info. I didn't know that; I'll keep that in mind for now on.

my harbor freight aluminum jack has been fairly reliable for me. still jacks fine.

http://www.harborfreight.com/c...47246

that sale price ($129) is limited time, but itll be on sale again.

however, if youre not travelling with your jack, like going to the track, then just get a steel jack. itll get you lower, and higher. (and cheaper) the extra height makes a big difference.

if you see an aluminum one made by Larin, dont get it.

I paid $75 for my harbor freight annodized blue aluminum jack, and once a month for the past half year, its been tossed into my trunk with the Azenis to go atuo-x. Gets under the lowered car without issue, relatively light weight, and the handle can be broken down into 2 pieces to make moving it around easier. I haven't had any problems yet, but as long as it lasts more than a year, I'll be happy with it.

I got one from costco..
it's a VERY low profile, I think its 3" high, and it lifts like 3 tons!

only downside is that it's heavier than $hit

It's too bad there isn't a really low profile one like the first aluminum HF one listed with a short handle. Some of us in 1-car garages just can't work that 4-ft handle on that nice one without whackin a wall!

The handle is 2-pieces. Just don't install the top piece.

uh yeah, just take off the top half if you are space constrained.

i usually jack front and rear anyway. that way you can install 4 jackstands in the right places.

i'd recomend the blue jack that i got from cosco. been using it for yrs now and hasn't failed me yet. lifts pretty high too(as tyson said, the extra height does matter. where my cousin's silver us general would stop, mine keeps on going). although, not so long ago... i just saw some new ones at cosco. they look so tight, but were $200+ range.

I have the same jack. I looked at it at HF and was going to buy but they were out of stock. So I stopped off at Pep Boys and they had the same exact jack (same manufacturer and everything) for the same price ($129). I've been using it for track days and in the garage for a couple years and I really like it.

The only thing about this jack is that since it's a rapid lift type system it will jack up in less pumps, but the pumps are harder. If you just plan on keeping it in your garage like Tyson said, get a cheaper steel one. It will weigh 2.5x more, but it will get the job done and will hold more weight if you ever need that. The steel one is 93 lbs so don't expect to use it for track days.

Thats not the case with their Aluminum jacks. They aren't warrantied because Sears knows they are made like ****. They do have a 1 year manufacturers warranty though.
The u-joint for closing the valve broke on mine (made of aluminum...DUH!). They were nice enough to exchange it but warned me notrto come back because they are not supposed to do that.
Then the u-joint broke on the second one after only 3 months. SO now I manually open and close the valve.

yeah those AC Hydraulic jacks are the ****, but they cost 3X what I paid for my jack and weigh 2-3x as much. I use my jack for AutoX/HPDE so lighter is better.
