car wont rev past 6k

my friend just put in a b16a2 in his 97 dx civic and he used a 97 GSR ecu and the stock DX harness and now the car wont rev past 6000. Should he use an EX harness or is something not hooked up rite?

what codes are you throwing?
your ecu is probably in limp mode

it the check engine is on, its in limp mode. if you arent throwing any codes well then good luck finding out
