JET Performance Chips???
has anyone tried this, are they any good? becuase i'm trying to either chip my ecu or get a piggy back system, but i haven't decided which one yet. what do you guys recommend. i have a 00 si with i/h/e/ aem cam gears on stock settings and ctr camshafts. thanks.
convert to obdI, run hondata, get it tuned. That will show the best results.
chips are pretty much useless in all cases. each setup is slightly different, and they basically throw you a guessed out basemap for high dollar.

You do realize that you will never pass a California emissions inspection with that, right?

You'd have to drive the car around for a certain length of time with the stock ECU to set all the OBD-2 readiness monitors.

I thought it was about 200 miles. As for a chip...its more than a waste, its dangerous. My coupe suffered TWO blown motors (previous owners) at the hand of the mid-90's chip that was tossed in it. It was the 1st thing I removed when I bought it.

true, but its a very quick fix. i say get a conversion harness, a p28, and either some freeware or hondata, and get it tuned. then just yank that out of there and slap the stock obd2 in a couple of weeks before getting it smogged (depending on how much you drive)

as a general rule, its never a good idea to run a "blind" tune

No, but you won't pass emissions.

what car does the P28 come from?

First of all 96-00 ECUs are not chippable/programmable, so ditch that idea altogether.
I'll echo those who say get a jumper harness, a P28, and then have a programmable set-up installed such as Hondata/Uberdata/Crome and have it dyno tuned. If you do this keep this in mind:
DO NOT GET RID OF ANY OBD2 SENSORS ON YOUR CAR SUCH AS THE SECONDARY O2 SENSOR, CKF, OR ANY EVAP EQUIPMENT BECAUSE WHEN YOU PLUG YOUR STOCK ECU BACK IN TO PASS EMISSIONS IT WILL THROW CODES!!!
When you run the jumper harness the P28 won't look for the extra OBD2 crap, but you'll need to keep it all in place still for the OBD2 computer.
As far as your car being impounded, etc. I'm not sure. I know that guys in Cali get pulled over all the time and get harrassed about noncarb equipment and get tickets and **** for non compliant CARB ****, so I'm sure if they discovered your jumper harness and OBD1 ECU you'd at least get a ticket and fine, so I would not leave it in plain view at all.
Oh and lastly:

Crome and Uberdata are what we call "freeware" programs that people use to reprogram and tune OBD1 computers. It's just like the Hondata systems that people pay hundreds of dollars for but much cheaper if you can find someone locally that has all the software, a laptop, and the hardware to install the Uberdata/Crome onto your P28 after they tune it on a dyno.

1992-1995 Honda Civic EX 2/4 door or Si hatch. The "P28" code comes from the middle three digits of the part number in the side of the ECU.

does this mean it's not going to pass emissions? and also is crome and uberdata as good as hondata? thanks.

It won't pass emissions if you try and go with the jumper harness and tuned ECU installed.
If you leave all the OBD2 sensors in place, and then swap in the stock ECU about a week before emissions time there's no reason you should fail emissions.

jetchips=gheyness.
i made the mistake of buying one for my 97 2.2 s-10.
and waisted 300+ bucks. it didnt do ****.
like everybody else says....... use hondata /uberdata for basic setup.
crome for ITB'S
etc etc etc.

they all do the same thing. just that crome and uberdata you can download for free.
