Default Ebay headers - my personal experience

I purchased some headers off of ebay for 42 bucks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...&rd=1

I thought i noticed an increase in hp but then again, not really. Its all in your head.

Yesterday i put on my stock exhaust and i dont notice any difference.

I should get sum dc-sports ceramic headers perhaps.

But no bolt ons going to help that much.

Anyone happy with dc-sport or name brand headers?

Thanks.

Steve

I'm not happy with my ceramic coated DC, the ceramic coating started to turn shitty after a year and a half. thats my only complaint though.

I have had both the dc cc 4-1 and 4-2-1 and had same problem as above. I think the 4-2-1 is better bc it gives me a little more low end power and I need that considering that I have a B16

You aren't going to "feel" anything from any header. Even if it makes another 8 or 9 hp, the only way you're going to see that difference is on a dyno.

I bought some headers off ebay thinking they were meganracing. Nope just some no-name, ******* dick head seller lied to me. Anyway I had dc headers before but they were really old, rusted and in the 2-1 section one of the pipes was bent in really bad. Anyway the ebay headers are 4-1 and has a much bigger outlet than the old dc. Even though I had to make some modifications to line the outlet up correctly to my exhaust pipe (flange was off a bit), I am enjoying it. The air flow is alot better than the dc. But then agian the dc pipe had a bend, kink, indention, etc., whatever you want to call it.

i've got a y8 and had before just a intake and dc 4-1 headers ceramic...stock exhuast...i didn't notice any type of difference...i'm guessing with out the exhuast i was getting too much back pressure...after i put back on my stock headers my motor finally felt like it could breath ahah...sold my dc headers (which i got for free) and put my stock intake back on haha...

the only way to ever really feel the power is going to be when you re-do all your exhaust piping, remove the cat (or go with a hi-flow cat), and do your intake manifold and throttle body. i just had my ls-vtec dyno tuned yesterday and the guys (sean at Churches in Long Beach) was telling me that at anything abouve 8200 rpms my torque was choking out because it couldnt breathe through my stock header and piping.

brand name doesnt usually matter on certain things. theres no moving parts in a header...so as long as the welding is good...no problems. next time just check to make sure the actual pipping on the header is larger than stock. not sure if yours is or not. brand name usually only applies to the finish on a header (unless you have a DC apparently) thats my experience at least.

no name brands are usually modeled exactly after a name brand.

i bought a dc header and it gave me +40whp when vtec kicked in. ebay one only gained 20.

stop pretending more money = more power. everyone should run $1000 JDM catbacks then.

I also bought a set of the $42 shipped ebay headers. When I openned them, I was suprised to see that it was exactly the same make as that of the SS Autochrome header than I bought for my SE-R.

If any of you are also members of one of the (name withheld) Nissan forums, there is a pretty big discussion about the parts.

It would turn out that the same parts are sold and used to make Hi-Power, Weapon R, JL Racing, SS Autochrome, OBX, DC-S, Superflow, OSS Racing, and a whole bunch of the cheap off brand SS headers. They are all the same, which is why most have no name and the ones that do are stamped. One of the distributors confirmed this, although he didn't give specifics about numbers and whatnot.

Take confort in the fact that I spend $150 shipped on the header for my SE-R, and that was a good deal (there are not as many parts available, so even the cheap ones are expensive).

The only up side about the cheapy ebay headers is that the cheap **** quality SS used seems less likely to crack than the DC, Hotshot, and other high end quality headers.

Dam i just typed up alot and it didnt fuking go thru!!!!! aguhhhhhhhhhh

On these the 02 sensor hole is in one pipe, and on the stock its at the bottom of the 4 pipes.

Would you get better gas mileage if the 02 sensor reads the whole amount of air going out ur exhaust?

Lol and no tag was on the headers, when i asked they said JDM Sports made them.

I bought Megan Racing headers from E-bay and got exactly what I asked for. They were better than the no name headers on my old engine.

What are you talking about? Where are you getting these figures? hp isnt something you can just make up in your head.

He is right, you will not notice very much of a gain from just a header, or for that matter, any bolt on. However, if you get an intake, intake manifold and throttle body, header, high flow cat, and a good cat-back (manderel bends) then you will probably notice a gain of 10-15 whp on a stock D series motor.

Not to burst anyones bubble but any header under $500 is garbage. Period. Dc,megan, edlebrock and any others in this class are garbage. There designs are outdated, old and none of them even have a 2.5 inch collector.

This is the exact same header I am currently using. And yes they have a 2.5 collector.
http://meganracing.com/product...id=67
My old dc only had 2 1/4 though.
I dont understand why everyone is into buying pre made cat-back systems. Why dont you go to some exhaust shop that knows what they are doing and have them custom bend you some 2.5" pipe (or whatever your preference)? Ive got no cat, 2.5" pipe all the way back and a magnaflow mufller. Not having a cat makes a huge difference and you can definitely tell right away. Although ive got to pay off the guy at jiffy lube for an inspection (its worth the 50 bucks every year in my opinion. Although I do feel bad about hurting the environment. Then again that is the least of its problems.)

my gas mileage seemed better when i accidently left my 02 sensor unplugged

I have yet to see a cheap header that is truly impressive. construction or hp.

I threw away a perfectly good ebay header one time because the port alignment and overall workmanship was so poor.

I bought mine because I needed a replacement for the stock manifold (the secondary pipe was pretty rusted out). I couldn't have a stock manifold shipped for $40.
