Default Engine blockheater Q's for the cold weather folks...

Just was wondering what a good brand is and how much I should expect to pay to have it installed. I had to start my teg a few times last winter when it was -25 F, and it didnt like it too much.

I also work at a place where we plug in our 18 wheelers, and their engines get toasty warm when they are plugged in, it has piqued my interest.

TIA

If I ever got one, I'd get a factory one.

I don't have experience with them personally, but don't get the type that is basically a heated magnet you stick on your oil pan. That said, I would prefer a block heater that goes in place of the block drain plug, heating the water jacket...or, one that mounts on/in the oil pan somehow. There is also the type that mounts on the lower radiator hose, but a lot of heat is probably lost backfeeding the radiator.

A quick visit to hondaautomotiveparts.com shows you can get them for an '05/'06 Civic. There's probably more I'm sure. Could I use that heater in my ancient teg, or are the Honda items model specific?

I haven't used heaters on my Hondas since they now sleep in a garage at night, but several years ago I used some different types on other cars. I would suggest you check with the dealer for a factory heater as that would probably be the cleanest install. I used a "tank" heater on my old Nova and Mustang which connected to the block and a heater hose and worked real good. There was lots of space in the old car engine bays for things like that, but I dont know if there would be room in your car.

Good Luck
