Default quick D series question (P2J-5??)

OK, so I need to know what year the head on my D series is.

When I bought the car, it had a y8 head on it, I was just wondering if there is a easy way to find out what year the head is... that is, IF there is a difference between the years. If I recall, someone said something about the 99-00 y8 IM being different than the 96-98.

Thanks

EDIT: New question...

My head has P2J-5 and 98 stamped on it, but I haven't seen that listed as a known head on other threads.

99-00 uses air injection.

look at the stamps above the header, you should see a 97 or something on the exhaust side of the head near the cam gear

OK, I looked.

Took me a second to find it cause it was covered up with gunk.

"98"

So my friend was telling me this means it was made in 98, for 99 spec? This kind of makes sense I guess, but can anyone confirm this?
What year is my head?

lol... my head would be the "hard-to-tell" one

OK, so there are more than just the year stamped?

is it located somewhere else?

And I guess I'll just go ahead and ask now, what month/day should I be looking for that shows if it's a 98 or a 99 model

You da man, Bense

I have a y7 IM on still.

That's what this whole thing is about. I need to know what year the head is so I know what year Y8 IM to get.

EDIT: come to think of it... if it has the stock Y7 IM on it (my hatch is a 2000), then wouldn't the head have to be 99-00 for it to work properly?

I believe air injection is only on the EX and HX's

you're going to have to find the stamps on the head that tell the month and date

ok... on the front of the head, I saw some more stamps above the exhaust

two dial looking stamps, first one with a" |5", second one with a "1|5"... then some squares, then futher to the left there is "P2J-5"
Then the "98"

If i need to look somewhere else, lemme know

edit:
I look here https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=786093

and P2J-5 isn't listed, wtf?

5/15/98 this wasn't the last quarter of the year where 99 cars were offered. Sounds like you got a 1998 year head without the 99-00 air injection.

p2j-5? who knows, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff. look under the valve cover, if you see buttons lol, then it's a y8. if you see roller rockers, y5.

Well before I start doing stuff like that, let's see if anybody knows what the hell a P2J-5 is. lol

bump for some D knowledge!

I think it's a y8, simply because...

Y4 = P2A-#
Y7 = P2F-HA#
Y8 = P2J-#

so wouldn't Y5's have a code with P2(someother letter)-#

I'm more curious of the year, and what year IM I need to get.

If I just get a 99-00 IM and the block doesn't have the ports, will it still work, or will I need to block off the ports or what?

99-00 intake manifolds have smaill air holes above the injector holes. you'll see when you get it.

Yeah, but what I was asking was, the head is either going to have the holes or not... but if I get the 99-00 IM, then it's either going to match up perfect, or it's going to have holes that do nothing.

I'm just curious if having a 99-00 IM on a 96-98 head is going to do anything...not normal lol

EDIT: I have a y8 IM for a 99-00 auto laying in my room... are the holes directly above the fuel injector port?

yes, they're above the fuel injector port. you would have to pull the injector out to see the hole. patching the holes up will have no negative effects on anything if you mate a 99-00 IM to your 96-98 head.

if i were you, i'd just drill and tape the holes for the IACV on the AT intake manifold and JB weld the air injection holes.
