Default never ending tps problem, code 7 of doom

alright so about a year ago, out of the blue my car started throwing a code 7, throttle position sensor. i checked the pins, turned out one of them broke. so i got a new plug, swapped the broken pin for a good one, and put it back in. reset the ecu, code went away....

for about a month. code pops up again

ive tried everything i could think of. ive measured the voltage, its .446 closed and 4.51 at WOT. those are close enough to .45 and 4.5 that im sure its probably just a discrepancy with the voltmeter

i rewired the entire plug as well, the code goes away for a while, but always comes back. i really just want to drive my car off a cliff at this point

im out of ideas, if anyone has had anything similar happen to them please share

i was thinking maybe there was a break in the line somewhere, but without taking the motor out its hard for me to check the whole harness. i put a different ecu in my car for ***** and giggles (chipped p28, 8600 redline) and the code still came on, however when i turned the car off and then back on, the code would be gone

another thing is, SOMETIMES when its throwing code 7, vtec stops working. other times it works fine. when i take the key out and put it back in, vtec starts working again....sometimes. i really have no clue whats going on and its driving me nuts

TPS codes come from one of the following:

Throttle position sensor itself
TPS plug on engine harness
Wiring from TPS engine harness plug to ECU
Pins/plugs at ECU where TPS pin locations are
ECU itself

Do you have access to the flowchart for diagnosing this problem with all of the ohm tests to rule out the sensor, wiring, etc?

I've had the pins at the ecu get fubar'd before... pull the pins out at the ecu plug and "spread" the pin so the contact part is sticking further down/out.

The only way I was able to find it was cause I had an obd2->1 adapter and the continuity test from tps plug to pins at ecu failed (no continuity) jiggled pins at ecu and started working... jiggled again and it stopped... pulled pins out and spread a little and now it works all the time...

Ummmm, yeah, we need to talk about your TPS reports. Didnt you get the memo?

when i used to jiggle the plug at the sensor end, the idle would dip and almost die, but that was before i changed the plug. i dont know if it still does it.
ill take a look at the ecu side and see whats going on down there

Do you have access to a spare ECU that you can borrow for a few days?

I have had a few customers' cars end up needing another ECU to fix a TPS problem.

...and no trust me my shop doesn't just slap an ECu in any car that has a sensoir problem. We actually run the flowchart in the Honda repair manual or All Data. Usually if the TPS sensor, the engine harness plug, and the plugs at the ECU all test fine with a volt meter then the ECU is bad.

I'll check the flowchart for the ECU inspection test.

yea, ive tried a different ecu. but the thing is, that its not a constant problem. sometimes i reset the ecu, and the code will go away for months at a time, but then it always comes back. that leads me to believe its has a bad connection/break in the line somewhere.

like, it will drive fine, then one day the idle will be kinda funny, then the throttle cuts out when i give it less than 1/4 throttle. it will cut in and out, and the car will jerk and stop, but will drive smooth if i give it half throttle

when it's doing it, backprobe the tps and make sure the voltage goes up smoothly... you might have a dead spot in the tps...
