Default 2006 civic ex QUESTION

i recently purchased a 2006 civic ex coupe, i couldnt afford the Si so i was wondering what parts, for the money, are best to make my car a little faster. im not looking into a turbo kit or anything real expensive.

AEM CAI = $250 (give or take)
Megan Racing "down pipe" = $250 (give or take)
Magnaflow Catback (only catback for the R18A1) = $500 (give or take)

total = approx $1,000 (after tax + shipping, etc...)

end results = car is still slow

bottom line = car will not be fast with your basic bolt ons, you need SERIOUS motor work to see any type of gains on this car.. otherwise start looking into turbo or quite possibly even N2O (some members on 8th civic have used that on their EX, say it's quite fast)

All those things you listed for the R18...

Is that the same way it would be for a D16 equipped Civics? Plenty of people had d series engines with i/h/e. I know it didn't make them fast but it seems like everyone is discouraged from getting bolt-ons for the R18 while it seemed to atleast be a start for the D which has less power to begin with.

oh yeah, "should've gotten the Si"

Intake and exhaust should be the first things to consider. Intake will cost around $200 and exhaust around $500. After that things will start getting overly expensive for your budget.

AEM CAI has been giving problems to R18 Owners and are working on a solution to the CEL and other MAJOR problems as we speak.

The P0171 is from a leak in the air intake track. Since the ECU has it's first Idle learn procedure with the stock intake flow, any major changes like a intake will result in the MAF sensor to detect a abnormal leak and to throw a CEL. The only thing that may help is for a dealer to do another PCM/ECM idle learn procedure with the Honda HDS with the aftermarket intake and see if it will learn the new flow rates.

If you want a fast car but then you said u can't afford the SI then don't you think it's a bit stupid ?

I mean you can spend like 1000 - 2000 more (depends) and you can have a 2.0 197hp rather then buying a 1.8 140hp and then buy all the stuff for it ....

I'm on the younger side of honda-tech's population. its not that I, or maybe some of us here can't afford. but my parents are buying me this car. and im using some of the money from my part time job to "fix it up", like i/e. im in it for the gas mileage, DIY, as well as bragging rights you might add .

parents dont want to get me the Si for the obvious reasons. 197 hp, 20k+ price tag, DOHC i-VTEC decals (yea, my mom knows whats up), and the fact that dealers talk about how fast it is and how its good to race with. im not complaining, im happy once i get my LX in a few days. ordered it last week.

thats too bad that honda does not allow for any worthy mods to a ulev vehicle. I personally would have gotten the Si, Had insurance for the damn ride been less expensive than the actual car per month. Other than that, a cai would or would not be worth the mid range power, or yeah?

i wasnt saying i wanted to make this car super fast, i just wanted to give it a little more power and wondered what i could do for that. like nighthawk said, insurance, parents, all that is one main reason i couldnt get the Si in the first place. I looked into a cai as soon as i got this car, and it sounds like that might be a good idea if im correct?

get the injen cai instead, i hear the aem piece causes cel's. the magnaflow exhaust will be a good add on as well. maybe you want to consider upgrading the handling, use Si sway bars front and rear and your car will be a different car immediately.
