Brake-Suspension Upgrade Question/Opinions
Seems like i need new brakepads- so im just going to get a brake kit including the pads and rotors (slotted and drilled maybe?) Which product would you guys recomend. Im not lookin to spend thousands of dollars. Its not a autox-drag-race car or anykind Im doing it for the mere upgrade. I will also be doing suspension parts--Im going with Koni Yellows with GC Coilovers. I just noticed how "shakey" my suspension is- so i would like to replace most of the parts like the upper/lower controll arms- support it with lower and rear strut/sway bars. What are you suggestions- my new job pays pretty well but i will be getting married soon so im not saying im on a budget lets just say stage1 type stuff compared to the best out there yaknow? Thanx for any help- peace.
btw i read about the Legen Twin Piston Caliper/Rotor kit...would finding these parts be cheaper than a aftermarket kit? thanx

if you read the faqs. you would know more.
but since i just "informed" someone else about brakes i'll give you the rundown.
1. you don't need a big brake kit
2. you need better pads (hawk hp+ or something similar)
3. gc/konis good, custom gc/konis better but i'll let you ease into that one
4. yes legend caliper is cheaper than aftermarket, but is it better? probably not. just stick with vtec calipers
5. stick with regular rotors, even autozone blanks will be ok, more than ok
there you go.

thanx- if i was going into show or trying to showoff that i can spend big bucks i would go for a brake kit- but i was just meaning that i need a "brake kit" including everything lol. Thanx for not flaming or just saying to search- which i will do from now - thanx. I will do the brakes this weekend hopefully.
BTW- Custom GC/Koni's? what do you mean by this i hear about it but the post didn't really give any info on what goes on and price difference.

Off-the-shelf GC's comes with 380F/250R springs. If you order direct from GC or other select vendors you can specify the spring rate you desire. OTS GC's are fine for DD'ing. And they're a little cheaper. You can always buy a new set of springs later should your needs change.
how would OTS GC compare to "customized" ones as far as comfortability go. I dont want it to be a rough ride- so if the OTS is nice and comfy i'll stick with that. That said- As far as comfortability goes- would i have to get them customized to be smoother riding- or would they be fine OTS? thanx
Well, it's really a matter of personal preferences isn't it? From stock to OTS KONI/GC -- the ride was initially harsh. But after experimenting with the settings a bit and obviously getting used to the setup, the ride became very comfortable. The spring rates on the OTS GC's are almost twice as stiff as stock, but there are members who claimed 500+ and up springs as comfortable enough on the street. Again depends on your personal experience/preference and road conditions. Give the OTS GC's a try. I'm pretty sure they're goin to work for you.
thanx man. I just dont want to bust my *** driving around town yaknow? but yeah i get that someones comfort level is different from another persons
I'll just go for them and experiment. thanx for the advice amigo.

^^^thats the best plan for you...if you wanna learn alot about brakes on ludes search for the big writeup that was done on them a week or so ago...i forgot who wrote it though....also doesnt the custom koni/gc combo include the shocks being valved for the diff. spring rates??
look into replacing inner/outer tie rods, bushings in the control arms, etc... your car will feel so tight after that

shocks being revalved thats the "term" i was lookin for. I'll definately read that writeup tonight for some good reading- thanx for that. And i'll also include replacing the bushings into my budget as well. thanx
What he said. Hawk HP+ pads up front, ATE Super Blue fluid and GC/Koni on my setup that worked excelent on the track this weekend. I am running 450f/475r springs and the car rotates well but not too much/quickly. It is also quite pleasent on our roads. I do however run SP slotted rotors and would replace them with the same when they wear out. I would not recomend drilled rotors. Wj
yeah i'm on 450/450 gc/ konis. you can go pretty high, 500ish w/o revalving the koni's to that srpingrate (although recommended)
on almost full soft, feels like normal suspension (to me)
and almost full stiff, its really stiff. i had to get those spring rates since they were a used set. but you can always get another set of springs and put it together

cool i'll go with those brakepads than- and yeah im going to be really picky as far as tires go. Hah not to pick a good brand- thanx for the help and responses- your making this an easy choice haha
What about brembo blanks, maybe slotted from island motorsports.
AEM brake pads, coximport.com.
Koni struts, anywhere even tirerack.com
Tein S. Tech springs, easily found on ebay.
should yield excellent braking and a comfortable well-performing ride.
