Default wheel hop vs. wheel spin

does wheel hop mean the tires have some traction but cant fully hook and wheel spin mean the tires just dont have traction?

No. Wheel hop is when your tires are rotating and bouncing off and the ground without traction, its very violent and you will feel it if ever happens to you. The car jumps and jitters. Wheel spin is when the tires spin on the pavement, and do not bounce without traction.

I answered both your questions. Which areas do you need more detail on?

I believe he's asking what causes wheels to hop instead of merely spin.

I think he answered the questions lol.

if you like to break axles, wheel hop is your friend

wheel hop is a sign of something potentially wrong, but not always. could be suspension, motor mounts, alignment settings....

wheel spin is just spinning the tires due to a lack of traction for various reason...

I agree... I have violent wheel hop... Just broke 1 axle and bent the other one at the track 2 weeks ago trying to pretend like I could push it hard anyway despite the hop. I've changed all but the stock mounts thus far so I'm going with that as my problem. Hasports arrive in a few days

I've done traction bar, es tq mount inserts, 2 different suspensions, a few alignments, and the mounts is the last thing I can think of before I'm just out of ideas.

I'll see what happens, but I'd love to have regular wheel spin

mounts might help but could be other things as well. what clutch and tires are you running and what is your camber/toe/caster settings? it all plays a part.

i have mounts and it helps. no suspension though so that might be the culprit for me.

I get a nasty wheel hop regardless of the tire/rim I have on that day.
I have bone stock suspension and mounts.

I have heard that a z10 Radius bar "might/would" help. Does anyone have any experience with one of these? Do they work as well as they claim?

I used the G-sport titanium traction bar setup before. It helped a little but hop was still there. If anything it made the handling feel solid in the front so that was a plus.

Since most of your setup is stock, I say make sure nothing is wrong first, like what was said above. If you find out it's a weakest link thing, then upgrade it, but all stock sounds strange.

traction bars need to be set up correctly for them to work properly. just slapping them on isnt going to cut it. if installed right they should almost eliminate wheel hop.

I have to disagree. Wheel hop is an inherent flaw in a fwd car ,particularly one with a lot of torque. There are many things that can be done to eliminate it almost entirely ,but on a street car the solutions genrally cause a drastic increase in ride harshness.

wheel hop is suspension binding/twisting under power. front-wheel and rear-wheel drive cars can both get wheel hop. the first traction bars were built for rear-wheel drive cars to eliminate the leaf springs from twinsting under torque and, under load, plant the wheel onto the ground.

nobody is talking about increasing or decreasing ride harshness. we are talking about ways to eliminate it. and I know of many FWD cars with lots of power that have no wheel hop issues with and without suspension mods.

Update

I officially have the hasport mounts (street bushings, softest of the 3) in. WOW, wheel hop is GONE. I actually looked at the stock mounts as I took them out and it looks like the tranny side oem mount was flexing easily so this could have been the cause. But everything feels sooo great now. Just thought I'd give my results since I said I would
