Just brought home a 1998 Honda Civic DX, 5 speed yesterday. It has 135k miles and was wanting to run some SEAFOAM through it. It's got a slightly rough idle currently.

Well, I can't figure out where to "suck" it in at. Can anyone help? If so, detailed instructions on where to put it into would be greatly appreciated.

unplug brake booster line.

have someone hold the idle at 1k or so so it doesnt bog down and die

let it SLOWLY sip the seafoam out of a cup.

let car sit for 15 min

start up and take for a spirited drive

behind your brake master cylinder is a round black thing, there is a vacuum line that goes from that to the intake manifold

thats a brake booster line.

take it off at the tan prop valve

it will idle funny and almost die out, thats why you have a friend hold the idle.

1/3 goes in the booster
1/3 goes in the valve cover
1/3 goes in the gas tank

You can put the seafoam into your gas tank, and then you can pull any available vaccum hose and pore seafoam directly into line. Seafoam is a 100% petroleum product, so you can also put it in your motor oil before a change to break lose all of the crap and gunk that might be built up in your oil lines.

 

Seafoam can also hurt compression.

 

pull out a spark plug and poor the whole thing in and then start the car.

It depends on how much you use... if you use it to excessivley, you can dry out your ring seals, but if you follow instructions, you will be fine. Seafoam is a 100% petroleum product, ive used in all of my vehicles and havent seen any compression difference. But i have heard of instances where seafoam hurts compression due to excessive use.

Seriously if you're going to use that **** at least change the oil afterwards, because it does dilute the oil enough to worry about driving on it for any long term time frame.

 

Seafoam works great.

you don't have to have a friend to hold the idle up, I just did it really slow. Just don't drown the vaccuum line and you'll be fine, Let it slowly suck the seafoam in.

i did it bymyself, jsut really slow, but it threw a CEL, a simple reset fixed it, i can feel a bit of a differance in the hp,maybe not, anybody have some dyno results yet?

 

Mine definately ran a little smoother. The *** dyno said yes to a hair more power. I don't think my carbon build up was very bad though.

Why you hatin on sea foam??? What do you use to get rid of the carbon build up. Because IT IS THERE... on EVERY CAR... anytime you burn anything... there is carbon that is produced. Seafoam is a good petroleum product that will clean ur system out. And it is proven that you can leave seafoam in your oil and change it regularly.

i used to rep seafoam, however i did it just a tad too much. Yes i agree seafoam is the boobies, but doing it too much will hurt someone.

THink about it, god didnt give us drinks to help clean out the human body, fully and safely, and honda manufacture didnt supply your car with magicall ****, that ONLY attacks the bad stuff.

heres my theory, you date a stripper, awsome and perfect right? good looking and a nice booty, WRONG you will suffer every last breathing day of your life if she has a young child with you.

Moral of story? unless the creator himself says "here, your engine is supposed to go with seafoam" then i will NO longer buy it.

the only thing that stops me from doing this is that my car has SO many miles..seafoam might work too well. if the carbon is something that is keeping my car together i don't want it to go away lol

 

only problem with seafoam, in order for it to really work, you have to seafoam it in stages, because carbon is wiped away in layers. SO you have a high chance of messing up something if you wanna really remove carbon....

oh and seafoam is only for 1999 honda civics, not 98s, so dont F around, if you get my drifting

"Hatin" would imply that I'm jealous of Seafom users, and I'm certainly not.

There you go bro you answered your own question. Why try and remove carbon when it's going to build right back up within weeks of driving? I've got plenty of customers at my shop with over 300,000 miles on their Hondas that have never used Seafoam, so again no thanks. I guess I'll just enjoy my "carbon build-up" thanks.

Wow did you rip that right off of their website?

Here's a "Seafoam Challenge" for all of you:

Dyno Test a car with a fresh oil change. Then do your Seafoam ritual (including rechanging the oil again) and then redyno the car.

Did it gain power and/or torque?

Again make sure you've changed the oil before the first dyno session, because if you don't then the "after Seafoam"results could be more due to the actual oil change.

After I see 5 of these tests (on 5 different cars) confirm that Seafoam works then I'll stop "hatin" on it.

jsut did it this morining sucker puffed out white smoke like no tomorow deff runs better, then whent to honda and had them change the oil and shes great. how many bottles of sea foam can i used and how ofthen?

 

i would restrain yourself from using a bottle of seafoam. I would use a bottle of cheveron techron instead, this actually helps for me, and honda uses it aswell. Seafoam may cause more problems then good, including warping ****. This is NOT a good thing (ice cold seafoam mixed with hot *** aluminum) I believe most of my problems are a result from using seafoam. Carbon is our friend
