Default Question about sanding down car....

I'm going to paint my car soon and i emailed a body shop with pic's of my car and asked them how much would it cost to sand down my car. here's the reply:

Hi thank you for your e-mail we can do all the rust cut 40% of the old paint down with a 400 papper mask and prime the whole car with a filler primer for $450....

sound like a good deal? thanks for the help

your not showing pics or even being very discriptive so its hard to say but u dont get much for 450 bucks so either way it is probably a good deal

IMO, i wouldn't do it for $450, thats way too much for them to sand down the car and primer it. if they were fixing dents, that'd be another story.

DIY.

well for one there is a big missconception on the process of bodywork, 90% prep and 10% paint is the motto.... so if you decide to do the work yourself (which seems to be the thing for hondatechers)(not saying u r incapible or not smart enough to do it either) it could potentially look 90% "F"ed up. You dont need primer unless there is body work being done either. every situation is a little different, but to prime a whole car is just making yourself hours and hours of wetsanding you won't want to do.

I work at a bodyshop myself. I don't recommand you to do it yourself, exspecially if you never have done any bodywork before.

and that price sounds like a pretty good deal.
