Cometic head gasket is junk!!!!
I was all set to install the head on the block last night and torque it down. I installed the ARP head studs and test fit the Cometic gasket. The two rivets on the intake side do not clear the block. Evidently the solution is to remove the two rivets and proceed. Why in the Hell would you knowingly manufacture a gasket that has rivets on the crush area of the gasket that have to be removed?
I have never seen such a high dollar POS in all my life.

I am learning the hard way that with a Honda OEM is best!!

I use cometic head gaskets and have used four on 2 of my own motors and never had a problem with them. I think you are installing it backwards or have the wrong gasket. Verify the part # on yours to the recommended one on the website. You may have been sent the wrong one.
Lol,
I am not installing the gasket wrong and it is the correct gasket. The two rivets on the intake side do not clear the block. The gasket is impossible to install wrong since it says up on one side. I called Cometic and they say drilling out the rivets is how you install it and that its nothing to worry about.
I went with an OEM gasket and its all good.
I still have the Cometic gasket hanging on the wall in the garage. Its a $90.00 decorative ornament now.
I almost bought Cometic gaskets for my Talon Tsi and my Mustang thank god I didnt.

Drilling out the rivets is not a problem, I have actually drilled out the rivets on a standard 0.030" Cometic to add a fourth layer--0.010" from another used Cometic to give me 0.040" instead of waiting and spending the money on a new 0.040 Cometic--worked fine. I do agree though that it kind of seems lousy on their part (cometic) that you would HAVE to remove the rivets just so it would clear.....I always use OEM now if possible--provided bore size and gasket thickness is OK.
