Default External ignition coil location, pic request

I did a search but couldn't find a pic of where the external ignition coil is mounted on an H22.

IIRC, I sort of remember Hawk's posting a pic of the location of the ignition coil on an H23, but I can't find it now.

Anyway, I'd really appreicate it if someone could snap a pic of where the external coil is mounted.

The bracket for the coil mounts to the thermostat housing, and the top of the cam cap or whatever you call it... closest to the firewall on the passenger side.

That engine bay really is a work of art!

Thanks for the pic, but would you happen to have a pic of the coil bracket?

Basically, when I got the H22 swap, the coil was hanging off the dizzy, so I have no idea which bracket I need and where it mounts too.

Thank you for the link Hawk, that was the thread I was looking for.

However, that's the H23 mount. On an H22, the VTEC solenoid sits there, I'm still uncertain where it goes on an H22.

couldnt you just follow the 5th wire coming off the distributor--thats NOT going to a spark plug?

you want bracket number 2

Two number 7's mount it to the cam cap thingie.

And number 6 goes to the thermostat housing.

Is this a JDM H22a you are putting this on?

Looks like old Place Racing mounts and also old AEM 3-bolt cam gears.

The reason I ask is b/c I just went through this. It bolts up, but is a little weird. In addition to the parts you already figured out you needed bolt # 6 doesn't quite line up right. I don't know if this is seomthing between the H22a and H22a1, or whether mine was just weird. Anyways, I just had to make an extension bracket (think about those generic brackets you get with an aftermarket stereo). After that it bolted right up.

Next is the wiring harness, if you are using the H23 harness like I did you have to extend the wires to make it work. Nothing too complicated here (It's just three wires). Just be sure to take your time and make nice connections (solder w/ heatshrink tubing, not butt connectors)

I guess a picture would really be in order here. I'll try and snap one tonight.

Yep, all good now though.

Hopefully these will help

Top mount...
Bolt #7 was longer than the ones that came out too, I guess to compensate.

Custom extension bracket. Again, not sure why mine was like this... I guess the JDM and USDM thermostat housing is possibly different?

type-R bolt ~+5whp

other side

And while the camera was out...my new wheels I got last week.

Yeah I sold my second set of stock sawblades to some guy on craigslist that paid a fortune for them. Then picked up the rotas.

Yeah, all season. Had one or two top 10 raws (out of >100 cars). Did fairly well, except for those damn Mini Cooper S in SM. I've just been running with THSCC, but there is a TSCC event this weekend if you have the itch.
