Default Good honda engine for autoxing

What would be a good engine to swap into a 90 civic hatch that was going to be autoxed?

Start out stock, learn to drive the car a bit, then decide if you need to change it. BELIEVE me you'll realize everyone who said start out stock was right. (swaps put you into classes where you may have a hard time being competetive.)

You don't need a swap to be fast.

any swap will put you into a class which requires R compound tires. well at least to be competitive. so if you don't mind getting your A** handed to you at first then it's not a big deal
even without a swap, if you don't wanna run R comps then you'll probably want to run STS. however the top drivers in STS class run faster times then alot of SM cars (on R comps) and being in STS they are only running Falken Azenis (usually)

is your hatch an SI? if so, you have a very good platform for STS. though the 1989 civic is preferred because it weighs a little less then your 1990.
if it's not an SI, then you can't swap in the SI engine/trans if you want to stay in STS. there is no update/backdate in STS class
