Default 99 LX....whining noise coming from front at highway speeds

My 99 Accord LX is making a whining noise at highway speeds, when the windows are up and the music is off, you can hear it very well. Wheel Bearing maybe? Tranny? Anyone else have this problem? Also, is it a know problem for the VTEC oil pressure sensor/switch to take a dump? My VTEC is malfunctioning and the guy who trouble shot the code says that when he put a volt meter on the switch, it didnt read anything when the car was running. Is it supposed to read a voltage when running or only when the VTEC kicks in? Is VTEC always working, or just at a certain RPM? Its my first accord. Thanks for any help.

The noise is probably your diff. carrier bearing in your transmission. Does the whining go away for a sec when your car shifts?

No it doesnt. Its consistent during shifts. The faster you go, the louder it gets.

Wheel bearings will correlate to your speed, but from my experience, the wheel bearing has more of a droning sound, or a roar, rather than a whine.

when you are at highway speeds, gently turn wheels left to right and see if the noise changes, if not, it is not your bearings. If it does change, it is your bearings.

most likely it is your differential causing the noise due to the taper bearings being excessively worn. This is a common problem in these cars particularly the V6 ones......but the I4 can be affected as well

yes trans has to be pulled becuase they have to dissassemble it.

Sorry...

Yes you can drive it until the axle seals start leaking and if you have complete service, you can try asking HOA for goodwill assistance if your car is under 100K
