Default Timing belt slack problem.

I while back i made a asking about a problem i had with a timing belt change. Everything went pretty smooth (a bitch to get the crank bolt off ) and i was satisfied with the end result. The line on the crank pulley was a hair off, but i tried like a thousand times and said screw it.

The tension was good when i got it all back together and it drove fine.

Well, its been about 10-15k miles now and i noticed somehting wierd. There is kind of a strange noise when i first start it, like something is scraping behind the cam gears. I replaced the allen bolts with hex bolts on the cam gears, but i really dont think they are poking through the back because the bolts were the same length. Anyways i also noticed the belt was flapping around a little on the exhaust side when i started it earlier. I killed it and felt the tension on the exhaust side with my hand and it felt like and inch and a half of tension or so. I drove home (about 10 miles) and opened the hood with the car running and the belt wasnt flapping anymore. Then i checked the tension after i killed it and it was nice and tight on the intake and exhaust side!

WTF??? Could the belt be streched or the tensioner loose or what?

I just remembered i may be able to tension it without pulling the thing all apart again.

Im missing my upper timing belt cover so i can kinda see the spring. I didnt replace the tensioner the first time so i pryed on it with a screwdriver to get the tension.

I can just use that little hole in the cover for the tensioner and pull on the spring with a coathanger or something to get tension right?

I guess im more concerned about how it got loose to begin with. And how did the tension disappear all of the sudden? I got a non-oem belt and im hoping the belt isnt crap quality. I think i remember buying the most expensive one that had just hoping it was the best quality.

Read this for more info: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1231006

This is what originally happened^^^^^^. Im really scared now that the bolt may have bent the end of the crankshaft. I noticed the crank pulley has the slightest wobble to it. You can barely notice it but im wondering if this is possibly stretching the belt or causing other problems.

The belts will stretch a bit after they go through a couple heat cycles. Also, the belt will be tighter when the motor is hot from heat expansion. To tighten the belt I recommend using one wrench on the intake cam gear bolt and one wrench on the crank pulley bolt. Put pressure on the cam gear bolt (clockwise) and counterclockwise on the crank pulley bolt to remove any slack in the belt. While keeping pressure on those two wrenches loosen and tighten the t-belt tensioner bolt and you should be nice and tight.

sure it does when you remove the slack like I explained above. I have always ran goodyear belts without any issues.

I have been searching around for some info on this as well, its a little harder to get tension on a SOHC then it ever was on my B16. Also what mark on the pulley is it suppposed to be set at when the belt goes back on? The middle one right? They lines lookl like this on my crank pulley ||| | is it the middle one and then the cam straight up?
