Default Setting timing, which mark do i line up on the pulley... 3 marks? or one mark?

Okay my pulleys old and has no colors just lines... the haynes manual tells me to line up with the one line.... on my pulley theres a line by it self then a group of three lines.... which lines do i use???

Also there is no bottom cover on the engine to line up the crank pulley and i dont have a light or anything of that sort... how would i go about finishing this?

Well honestly the best way would be to pull the crank pulley off and use the mark on the oil pump...but if no you might be able to see it if you can get a flash light...to answer your originall question use the single line for the cam timing...the 3 lines are for the dizzy timing

and the single line is just a couple inches to the right of the 3 lines correct??

Im suppose to line up the pulley line with the line on timing cover, however this si engine dont have a line, is there anything else i can use to line up the line... im not to familiar with the oil pump... how would i use the oil pump to do it??...

The three lines represent what you use when you have a zero-set timing gun. The soliarty line farther aolng the pulley is for TDC and you can use it if you are using an advance timing light.

Yea its behind the pulley it sucks but if have no timing cover ts the next best way to line up the cam timing...

You should go invest in a light...

so you're just trying to set the #1 piston to TDC? If so just look at the marks on the cam gears,,,And take out the spark plug for cylinder 1 and stick a long screwdriver in there,,then turn the motor till the screwdriver is all the way up and the cam gears are like this for #1 pistons at TDC....
