Line up the cam gear(s) with the head. There will be UP written on each one, or one for a SOHC, and a line to line up horizontally with the top of the head.

edit: Sounds like you're trying to do it by means of the crank pulley. Don't.

Use a 17mm socket and ratchet to turn the crank counterclockwise to turn the engine and line up the cam gears.

No. UP is not written on the crank pulley. It appears you didn't read a damn thing I wrote.

Look at the CAM GEARS, or gear if you have a SOHC. UP will be written on the cam gears, as well as two marks, one on either side of the cam gear. Line these up with the horizontal plane of the head and check that both cam gears are lined up the same.

In addition, look at the crank pulley. I believe there is a notch or mark either on the timing cover or below the timing cover that shows where TDC is. This should be lined up with a mark on the crank pulley when your cam gears are showing TDC also. If you can only see red, then the one that isn't red must be white, right.

The idea here is to check for consistency between the two cam gears as well as consistency between the cam gears and the crank pulley. But you can't look at the crank pulley ONLY to determine if everything is ok.

i know, but i have 5 lines, only 1 of them are red, the other 4 are faded off. and i know my belt jump a tooth, i see the UP on the cam gear but now i need to know which line to lined up the pointer with. because like i said there is 5, 1 is red, the rest is faded...and it looks like this....l...i...l........l...l....the "i" is the red one, the rest is faded.
