Default adjusting timing

Well im looking at advancing my timing up to 18 but I read somewhere that your idle has to be at 750 +/- 50. My idle is around 1000 and 900. Is it still safe to adjust it when its that high?

Default Re: adjusting timing (skata89)

stock specs are between 14 and 18 DTC if i remember right.

usually its set to 16, but some claim their vehicles came with 14 or 18 or somewhere inbetween from the dealership when bought new.

fwiw, i adjusted mine to 18, but dont think i really got any advantage out of it.

advancing your ignition timing without tuning wont guarantee any performance increase (and may end up decreasing your overall output instead).

if you want to tune your stock ITR at a reputable shop, there are still some savings involved -- better MPG and perhaps another few whp.

edit: and...my idle has never been or ever will be around 750rpm
