Default what position should the thing the slave cylinder push on be in??

Sorry, I didn't know what to call it but the thing that the ball of the rod that goes in the slave cylinder.. it pushes against some paddle that moves left to right.. Mine is pretty easy to move and I don't know what position it should be in when I install the slave cylinder... or does it matter???

I put in a new slave cylinder because I lost pressure in the system... Now when I fill it up and try to pressurize everything... I lose all the fluid and I can't figure out where it's going....
