Alternator replacement, accord V6 sedan
I'm working on my friend's V6 3.0, trying to replace the alternator. I don't have the manual for it. It all looks pretty straigthforward, except I can't figure out how to relieve tension on the tensioner pulley. How do I do that? I'm pretty comfortable working on cars, especially Hondas, but I've mostly done work on CRX/EF Civics and my dad's 89 Accord LXi.
And do Delphi alternators come stock in these? GM crap... the Denso in my CRX lasted to 200k!

I usually pull up on the old belt to get it off and then use a ratchet to hold the tensioner when putting on the new belt
yea i just replaced the alternator in my acrd cpe. what you do have to do is remove the radiator to allow clearance when the alternator is removed. it took me about an hour -granted you have all the right tools-
I can see the radiator fan needs to come out, nothing as bad as a CRX if you've ever done the alternator in one
What I'm asking though is how does the tensioner work, is it just a tough spring or something, or do I have to loosen something on it?
I should have all the tools, I have a full shop here... done plenty of swaps and stuff, just haven't worked on a v6 accord.

I believe its a size 14. Just put a wrench on it and push it torwards the firewall. It will move and allow you to put he belt on. You'll need a second set of hands to aid.
Yes they do come with the crappy Delphi. I upgraded mine to a 3.2 TL Denso unit. It does bolt up but you'll need to extend a few wires and make the grounding hole on the wire a little bigger.

So there's a nut or something on it? I was feeling around on it earlier and couldn't locate anything.
thanks

I believe there is a nut or soemthing that will let you slide the 14mm wrench on it. Its a real tight squeeze.

Got it done, thanks guys. It's a smart design with that spring pulley, a lot better than trying to break loose an old bolt/nut. The only issue I had was fitting my big hands down the side there and having to use wrenches 1/8 turn at a time to get things done.
