'04 V6 Alternator change.

Re: '04 V6 Alternator change.
The service manual says to remove the drive belt, the fan (and shroud) on the passenger side, and the coolant reserve tank, to get to the alternator. Of course there are wires to disconnect for the fan, and a harness for the alternator. If your alternator went out, I'm going to guess it's a Delphi alternator. You could replace it with the better Denso, but they are way more expensive. They also have slightly different connections, but I am told the switch is no problem.

In the shop it takes me about half an hr to 45 minutes to do a alternator job.
First and foremost make sure you have the Anti theft codes for the radio it should be on a sticker on your glove box or in the owners manual service manual.
Remove the Drive belt. Then remove the power steering pump and move it aside dont disconnect any hoses. Then remove the auto tensioner. Then disconnect the alternator take out three bolts and bam your done

the reason you need the anti theft code is because the first thing you should do when servicing the alternator is disconnect the negative cable from the battery. The large white wire that is attached to the alternator is hot at all times. Unless of course you disconnect the neg. cable. Just a tip. Another way to do this is by removing the belt, removing the passenger side engine mount, jack engine up on passenger side, remove alternator, reverse the procedure. Its 6 of one half a dozen of the other. I like the fan shroud way myself.

I know they do just telling my experiences. I like the factory way. Follow the book and 99.9% of the time you will be on point. Blows my mind how many ppl with 6 Gs in a Honda will scoff at 150 bucks for manual/etm combo. There is nothing like them.IMO

I agree that ppl should buy the factory service manual. It beats any Haynes, Chilton, or other manuals hands down. Usually one DIY will already recover the cost of the manual. Handa Accessories is a great place to buy the manual from.

Thanks for all the help guys. I did a test with a voltmeter and the alt. is good. I will definetly keep all this info. I looked, and it is a Denso alt. Blkflsh mentioned it might be a Delphi, and that is what I thought, until I went to test it, and cleaned the label. It is a Denso. My issue is the batt. Needs replacement. Thanks again.

The Denso alternator is three times the price of the Delphi, but you can actually by parts for it, and rebuild it yourself. With the Delphi, you have to buy a new or re-built (by some company). The Delphi in my 03 V6 is still going strong, but if it ever does quit on me, I have a decision to make (Denso, or Delphi). I guess it depends how long this one lasts. Good thing it was the battery, in your case, they're a lot cheaper than the alternators.
