Default AC question/problem 00 SI

my ac hasn't been working for about the past 6 months on my 00 si (89k) and lately i've noticed something that sounds like a bearing going bad or something down in that general area.....a kind of grinding noise, i'm guessing ac since it's not working. This morning when i started my car up, there was a squeal for a few seconds and then my car died (which i'm not sure why cuz ac pump shouldn't cause this i wouldn't think), and when i started it up that grinding noise was really bad for about 5 minutes in the same general area of the ac pump....since it's winter and all, i can just cut that belt for now right?? then replace it next spring when i get a new pump....TIA

Yes you can if thats all the belt runs. Its kind of sounds like the A/C compressor seized up.

yeah bc if you dont disconnect the connector if not if it locks up with the clutch half in it will keep pullin juice out of your battery tryin to engage the clutch fully
