Steering Wheel Click When The Car Gets Hot.
I've noticed this clicking feel in the steering wheel when the car has been at running temperature for about 30 mins. Happens quicker when it's hot and muggy outside and I have the air con on. Any advise?
Does this happen only when you use the A/C for some time? I also feel a click/pop when I use my a/c for some time, but i dont feel it in my wheel, i feel it in my brake pedal.

i get this problem too when the air temp outside is hot. It feels like the steering wheel is gonna come loose or something...so I wanna know what you guys think it is.

Yeah, happens when the aircon has been on for awhile. Also make the clicking feel come quicker when I have the air con on. And...I think I feel it in my brakes, too, but I'm not sure if they're related.
IDK. This has been happening to my car for as long as I can remember and I'm the original owner.

Huh? Now this happens only after the car has been running hot. I don't feel this click at night or when it's cooler. Late in the 80's and up, muggy and me running the air conditioner causes this condition.
I would say.....remove the power steering
lol that should solve the problem
now, you guys all have this problem in both the brake pedal and the ps system?? and it only happens when its hot out?
does it happen if its hot and you don't use the ac?
does it happen if its cold and have the ac on? (i know you probably dont know this, but go try)
I'm trying to eliminate variables.....
Does the click happen once every time you turn or does it feel like a gear binding?? aka multiple clicks per turn....also, when the brake pedal does it, is it just one click in the pedal or is it repetitive
keep in mind if it always happens with the ac on or when you get on the brakes that it could be bad motor mounts, allowing the engine to hit the chassis when you put stress on it (like turning, braking, accelerating hard, etc)

With me it just happens when the car is running hot. Running the air con just gets my car hotter faster.

Actually, the clicking I feel is when I'm stopped at a light. I don't feel it once the car is rolling. I don't feel any movement in the steering, but like someone said, it does feel like it's gonna come off. I don't think my brakes are affected -- I just switched out my pads and notice they make clinking noises. I'll get some squeak stop or equivalent when I get the chance this weekend.

I've had this happen to my car since I've owned it in early 98! I notice it more/quicker because I had to take may heatshield off (it was rattling, mount got rusted off). I'm assuming my engine bay temp is higher because of this. And I swear feels like summer all year long nowadays...
I think I'll just live with it...Get me a Honda Fit later.

Sorry I haven't been to this thread in a while. It doesn't do multiple clicks, just one click and it doesn't click when in turns. Only happens when A/C is on for a few mins and after I release the brake pedal.

Yes, still clicks when the A/C is on and it is cold outside. I know this sounds weird, but now that I think of it, when the heat and A/C is on, the car doesn't click. Well, at least I don't think it does.
It would be great to figure out what is going on, but if nothing harmful is going on, then I can learn to live with it.

Does your symptoms mirror mine or the other poster? And to answer your question, nope, no resolution to this. But it's been getting cooler now and I don't feel this happening to my car as much.
yes i have the same symptoms as yours. mine has been quiet for about a month because it has been cool but today it was warm and it was doing it again. this is driving me nuts and the mechanics think i am crazy. i hope someone can figure this out.

I've had that problem in the past when the car was really hot, did it feel like the steering wheel was going to come off? It hasn't done it in a while now...and at the time that it did happen I didn't have A/C, so I don't think it's the A/C.
