I havent done this but alot of my friends have. the only complaint they really have told me about is the unreliability of the motors and how underpowered the LSVtec is compaired to the CRVtec (CRVtec is at my bumper when we race, I think he would be alot faster if he had an LSD, due to the massive torque)

I'm almost positive when my car hits 60-75K I'm going to replace it with B20 bottom. Really it's everything I wished my B18 was.

I worry about the reliability. But I've heard that if the motor is built properly reliability should not be a problem. EG hatch with LS or CRV/VTEC.. nice..

I would like someone to explain how reliabity is an issue if it is taken care of, and properly built. I dont see how, even with a stock b18b block(w/added block girdle, and ITR oil pump) it would be any less reliable then a b18c.

I will be putting my LS/Vtec setup together on the 18th. I just bought all my parts yesterday.

I'm curious how a CRVTEC would last under track applications. Anyone know how reliable it'll be there? The only talk in my area about these kinds of engines is by drag racers.

if its built right, it will be just as reliable as the factory motor.....

You cant bre a b18c5 to 84mm, you would have to sleeve it first. And you would have to put a crv/ls crank in it also to make a 2 ltr.
Dont ask how I know

LS crank and rods is always a good idea.
The extra 1.8mm of stroke is easily worth 2-3hp and ft/lbs across the board.

Especially if you're rebuilding your motor, it would be wise to use LS crank and rods instead of GSR.

a sleeved and bored out R block would dominate, but i could be wrong
add a LS crank and rods to the equation. even better.

What about the lack of oil squirters?

I know jg finally killed his CRVtec which was a track car....

The worst thing about CRVTEC is for one the lack of oil squirters, the cylinder walls and the cost.

With a CRVTEC you must run an aftermarket piston. The stock CRV pistons have a very low CR and dont have deep enough valve releifs. Now since you must use an aftermarket piston like JE, Ross, etc. you must also use aftermarket rods. For some reason aftermarket pistons dont fit OEM rods from either the CRV or LS. So thats cash right there. $450+ for pistons and $375+ for rods.

A think it is a good set-up though especially if you have an ITR when you can damn near break even by selling your stock parts.

Things you will need:
ITR TB-$0
ITR IM-$0
Holley 255lph Fuel Pump-$230
FPR+Gauge=$85
370cc Injectors=$343
ITR Head-$0
Deshroud Head=apx $100..all labor time
Block=$800(for a short-block actually...with head)
JE Pistons=$500
Eagle Rods=$365
Bore, Honed, Disassemble, Assemble, Balance and Blueprint=apx $1500
ITR Oil and Water Pump=$0
New T-Belt=$60
Oil Line/Fittings=$100
Header=$300(DC JDM)
VAFC=$300
ITR Tranny=$0
All New Bearings, Gaskets and Seals=$400

Thats about $5000 worth of parts. You can sell a bunch of stuff like your stock block, CRV pistons and rods, CRV head, sensors, etc. IMO that is atleast $2000 worth of parts so $3000 net-net for 210+whp is pretty good.
