Default Do you know? *Transmission Question*

96 Prelude Si:

I have a cracked tranny casing... the motor mount that is attached onto the tranny case has cracked and I am driving with one less motor mount.

Now the question is...

Do you guys know if the motor mount is attached onto the tranny housing, or the clutch housing? or is there only one housing for both? I need to get the housing replaced cuz I can feel my motor jumpin around.. And also, the cracked portion that broke off is part of the threads that hold the speed sensor in place.. if that helps any...

thanks

p.s. if you don't know, and have pics of a prelude transmission, please post.. it will help me to identify.. since everything is hard to see in my engine bay

The tranny mount attaches to the tranny housing. Which attaches to the clutch housing which attaches to the block.

the rear mount bracket has one bolt attached to the block (top bolt), followed by 3 other bolts attached to the tranny. Two about 2.5" and a third one that is about 1.5"

you might wanna remove the tranny and see if you can weld or jb weld that portion that bolts the speed sensor in place.

get us some pics of your situation.

Are you talking bout the rear motor mount or right side mount that attaches the tranny to the body of the car? I might have mislead you. If you are talking about the rear motor mount that one attaches to the clutch housing. I dont believe any of the bolts attach or go through the tranny housing.

I'm talking about the motor mount that attaches to the tranny or clutch housing and attaches to the body of the car (firewall) just wanted to know if it was on he transmission housing or the clutch housing.. an easier question might be.. is the speed sensor attached onto the tranny case or clutch case? cuz thats where its cracked and a piece fell out...

The VSS attaches to the tranny housing.

Looks like the VSS is on the clutch housing and the 3 bolts for the rear mount are also...I guess maybe they could go through the clutch housing to the tranny housing but probably not.

Thanks for the pic! The yellow portion I circled is the portion of the housing which cracked and fell off the car.. It includes one side of the threads that the VSS (speed sensor) bolts into which explain why it gets loose from time to time.. However....

Can we confirm that this is the clutch housing and not the transmission housing?

I just checked the tranny and it does connect to the clutch housing. I will take pictures if you have no trust.

i cracked that exact spot on mine too. it made my speedo not work and ran like ****. i got another bell housing from honda but then kicked myself in the *** for remembering i had another tranny at my parents house. but im guessing thats a pretty brittle area cuz ive heard about this about 4 other times. but that section is the clutch housing and it doesnt take that long to change it the longest part is yanking and installing the trans

Here you go mang

Red line separates the clutch housing (bottom) from the tranny housing (top). Yellow arrow points to the VSS sensor.
