what's so great about an automatic transmission for a K-series when you have oem close ratio 6speeds?

well, the cobalts are running in the 7's with pretty good reliability using this tranny. those close ratio stock trannies don't hold up to 700-800hp reliably and the g-force/liberty trannies start at $16,000.

this year has been a disaster for us due to tranny failure in our H22civic. now that we are building a full racecar we want it to be as bulletproof as possble. of course on a non sponcered budget.

the ones in the ecotecs YES, but they handle 1200+hp for most of the season.

the tranny can be had for $200-$400. estimated 5K to build it with torque converter for 800Hp. Now if custom gear sets are needed which has yet to be determined, then i'll be scared about it being to expensive.

the f20c would use the RWD GM tranny turbo400/4L80 ect. the 4T65-E is a FWD tranny.

Everything has been 100 percent custom made. It is a f20c engine fwd with a 4t65e transmission. Making the adapter plate is the easy part There are lots lots more issues with making this setup work, let alone even buying the transmission from GM racing. You can not even buy the same transmission case as what those 7 sec. GM cars run. There also no gear ratios available. It is a 4 speed trans., but the 4th is overdrive so you only use 3 gears.

It will work for mock up. They come in the 6 and 8 cycl. vehicles. I think the starter area might be a tad different on the 8 cycl. version. Their own race version of the case comes thicker inside to stop it from breaking. They claim 6k gets you the transmission. It will take you forever to get one though, they are more concerned in keeping their own racers stocked then selling them from what I have seen.

You can get the race built hydramatic transmission from GM for $6000, thats a steal for a auto tranny that will support that kind of power for over a season.

Built auto> close ratio 6 speed ANY DAY for drag racing.
