Im trying to find out the rule about the D bars on a car without a subframe. what i read is, the d bars anre to be welded to the sub frame, well, we dont have one. where to put them?
i talked to kens custom chassis and ive talked to the tech in our area (he is out of vancouver), they both said, that the d-bars just need to be welded to 6*6*1/8 plates that are either bolted (if the flooring is single-walled) or welded if the flooring is double walled. but like the rule book said, it has to be connected to the subframe, so ive seen some pictures of a lower cross bar, connecting to the main hoop.

this will fly, this is from my cage builder also, and this is the way we were told to do it by the man that passed my car for NHRA cert. BUT technically as per the rules, there needs to be a tube going from the rocker box across the floor, and the d bars go to that.

Hey Mikey,
I saw your post on Honda Tech.......thanks for the Kudos............I do
want to mention that we contemplated about the D bars doing it like that
other guys, thats how we usually do full frame cars, but we talked to the
inspector, and BTW he fails more cars than any other NHRA inspector, they
nick named him the black widow.....hehe. He does this as his daily job, not
a saturday only thing( we do not deal with the maryland guys, hes a PITA to
get ahold of, This guy comes out of northern Philly for us). We asked him
how we should do them since there is no way to put subframe connectors, and
he said to do them just the way we did, as long as the plates are on top of
the frame which was no problem since the frame is pretty far in on these
cars. So worry not, he looked at them in depth and had no problem with it at
all. he loved the way it was done and the way it was boxed to the rockers
was high on his list of the way it SHOULD be done. I am not sure of this
hidden rule or this CCMC rule they speak of, but if it was a written rule,
our inspector would have definatly said some thing. I do know that if they
car has SUBFRAME connectors, the D bar HAS to go to them, not the floor, he
has stressed that to us before, but in this case, we did the right thing.
Hope this eases your mind a little.
Not worth arguing with those guys either, just let them think what they
want.......hehe

if you post pics as i did, prepare to be hassled about the d bars if they are done that way. i am good for another year and a half so i am not worried.
