Default Picture and information request

I've started debating my original idea to get Navi in the Civic EX that I will be buying.

Does anyone have a picture of the center dash of an EX with the stock stereo? If the picture includes the lower portion with the cubby holes as well it would be great!
The pictures on Honda's website leave much to be desired, and the good ones all have navi installed.

Also, how much is it to add XM Radio to the stock EX?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Is that unit under the stereo an accessory? Or does it come on a stock EX?

It is the VD changer. It is available as a dealer installed accessory or you can order it and install it yourself.

did you have to change the whole radio console cause the stock cd looks built in and looks nothing like that at all.

OK, so the picture asg23 posted is incorrect?

What is involved with adding XM radio? Is it just a module installed somewhere? Can it be done by the owner after the car is bought?

if u look at the steering wheel, ex models have the volume control buttons along with the cruise control buttons(check Ms Gambit pictures).
What that guy posted was an accessorized dx model since the steering wheel is "naked(no buttons)".
LX models come with cruise control buttons on the right side.

As to your original question, If you're planing to purchase an EX model with navigation system, the unit is XM-ready and in need of a suscription to get it working but since you want a picture i found ya a movie...here u go =D
Note that the model shown is a civic si...ex has blue interior gauges instead of amber

Are you saying that when it says XM READY it simply means that all the electronic gear is already installed and all you have to do is buy a subscription?

I figured it meant that the stereo was ready to accept an XM upgrade (usually a small module, common in other cars).

Thanks

it is possible. i saw a pic on ht i believe it was once, of one with an aftermarket head unit. it looked really tacky and odd IMO. besides why would you want to change the ex sound system. i personally love it. its not to much and not to little. and it comes already with a subwoofer (dont know what kind). that is unless you want to be heard coming from a mile away

i have an LX (or gettin one soon) i think its less voltage than the EX. not sayin i would just that it would just be interesting to see what it would look like since its all one big piece.

Ms. Gambit:

that looks like a pic of an ex, with navi. someone took out their navi to add an aftermarket headunit?!

they didnt take out the navi to install an aftermarket. it was a stock radio and they replaced it. u have to replace the enter bezel... which is like $80 or so now. that one peice will replace the entire area and i believe it does some with the new harness required to bolt in a new radio. if i was going to replace it with anything, it would def be NAVI!!! screw spending $350-400 on a good radio. u can spend a few hundred more and have a navi/dvd/cd/mp3/wma player that looks a hell of a lot better. i know there are pics in this forum, search and u shall find

I replaced the headunit in the SI the same way. I ordered a Navi center piece and a few pieces of a honda element and everything bolted right into place. Mine looks exaclty how the one above looks. I have the whole DIY if you need it.

Can anyone cofnirm whether anything needs to be added to an "XM Ready" stereo other than a subscription?

Yes, if you have a non-NAVI setup, all the XM-Ready (including mine - cry!) need the XM module installed, which is around $400 or something...

So, no, you can't just pay for a subscription and have it work without it.

That really sucks. Most standalone XM units are around $100, it sucks that they make the module so much more.
