Default Rapid ticks from starter.....and I've searched

Well after reading over 10 threads on starter issues I think I'm more confused haha or I'm going to be doing a lot of work for one little issue.

Ok so I'm at work but when I get off I'm going to work on it but it'll be dark already. Cars outside in a apartment parking lot at my Gf's so I don't have the luxury of taking my time, plus I need it for work tomorrow so need some help so I can just straight to the root.

When I turn the keys it make a rapid firing noise like a mini machine gun. Coming straight from the starter and first time I had trouble with the car not starting. I cleaned batter terminals and made sure it's tight. Made sure the solnoid plug is tight also but that is all I checked. I did changed out my clutch about a month ago and we all know you'd take off all the crap so I guess I could've not put some thing back right but it's been a month.

I know I'll be able to find the cause but I have so little time and only a flashlight so I just want some source so I can just get it out of the way. After reading all the threads I think I'll end up buying a new starter...

Try getting a jump start.

When your battery is weak the solenoid will make a bunch of clicks like that when it gets just enough power to pull the plunger to make contact to give power to the starter motor. When the starter motor turns the battery voltage drops to a point where the solenoid can't hold the contact anymore. The spring on the plunger returns to where it started, which allows enough voltage for the solenoid to pull the plunger into contact again, rinse and repeat. This happens in rapid sucession, which causes your rapid clicks.

Cliffs: Check battery charge/electrolyte level

PS I tried to simplify that without explaining the parts of a starter, I hope it made sense

yeah dude your battery is low.

the guy that said hit it with a hammer is talking about if your battery was fine, but when you turned yoru key forward nothing happens, tap the starter with a hammer to the plunger thing can get un-stuck and move freely. i dind't explain that very well but screw it, it's way too late..

this happened to me. try jumping your car or changing your battery. and if you jump your car you might have to jump it again the next time you start it so just get a new battery anyway. that's what happened to me.

haha the classic starter smack down. I know about that because when I was in H.S. i'd drive my parents shitty old toyota camery, toyotas and they're known for that. I thought about hitting it but didn't have a long enough metal bar.

Yeah from all the notes I took it sounds like the batter. What sucks is if it's the battery it can be linked to the alternator too if it's bad because the car is running off the battery and the alternator is near it's end of life.

Ok after work I'll go jump start the car. Well see from there on. Guess it is time to buy a new battery too. If this continues with the new battery then it's also the alternator....maybe. Right or wrong???

Hey shutta, so I see you can reply to threads and topics no problem.. but you can't reply to my instant messages about a transaction that took place. Yeah I know I'm putting this out in the open but I am very impatient and frustrated. So please reply to my messages or I'll be contact the authorities and the moderators. So either refund my money or send my part to my house asap. I've been trying to contact you since the 6th of this month and you continue to log on and reply to threads/browse around the forums. but you don't reply to my messages. I need this part asap, this has delayed my project for almost 3 weeks now.
