Default Turbo D series Project brought to you by Mainstream Performance/TDF

We started building this car for a customer and ive been too busy to make a post about it, but i thought i would do it now.

Basically, the whole thing started because the customer had a certain monetary budget (dont we all) and he wanted the best bang for his buck. We threw around ideas of a Stock GSR swap OBD1 with nitrous, then felt it would be too unreliable on a stock motor. Turbo B series was out of the question, H22 swap, etc etc.

After thinking about it for awhile, and being inspired by FULL RACEs Turbo D series for Pinks, i said "why not turbo D?" well, the project was born once numbers were crunched and heres what we came up with:

ENGINE BUILD AND ALL FABRICATION DONE BY MAINSTREAM PERFORMANCE/Turbo Dave Fabrications
D16A6 block STOCK SLEEVES
CP Pistons
Eagle Rods
Y8 SOHC VTEC HEAD and INTAKE MANIFOLD
LS TB
Stock head IE stock springs, ret, valves
Balanced bottom end, bore, hone, deck, hottank
ACL bearings
all the new OEM stuff (oil pump, timing belt, water pump, etc)
TDF D series bottom mount short runner Turbo manifold
Turbonetics T3/T4 57 Trim
MSPi Intercooler kit, piping, DP , Exhuast
EVO 8 560cc injectors
Boomslang Conversion harness OBD0-OBD1
Digitalboxtuning.com ECU (p28 chipped with Chrome)
ZC Tranny with equal length axles
Competition Clutch Stage 4 with upgraded PP
Stock flywheel

PICS:
Here is the intercooler we originally wanted to use (JUST KIDDING)

Block with its new slugs:

Turbo Setup WITH FACTORY FULL CORE RADIATOR, Crossmember, Battery location

3in DP with FACTORY CROSSMEMBER

Shooting for at least 300whp. be happy with more obviously. just got it cranked up so tomrrow we will tune it. stay tuned.

That set-up is hot. I'm loving how you guys kept the stock crossmember, radiator, and battery location.

I'm awaiting the numbers

head was decked, block was left untouched. Bore an hone only. crank was balanced as well as rods an pistons.

i ordered 2 sets of pistons at the same time, i believe these were .20 over.

budget was $7000. he dropped off a stock CRX SI.

Basically we went back an forth an what it came down to was he wanted to make the most power reliably. the other options were:

GSR swap
B16 swap

you add nitrous or a turbo, an its still on a stock block which i wouldnt call reliable HP. his budget didnt allow for a B swap, built motor AND a turbo kit.

this was the best way IMO to build a great street/track car, with a good usable powerband, good TQ, and of course, the almighty WHP numbers. an it has forged internals and new OEM parts.

oh im sure if he does enough clutch drops on slicks the tranny will go. but i sold his stock SI tranny an opted for a ZC because of its equal length axles. less TQ steer.

But we will see what happens

I am not trying to threadjack, nor am I trying to talk trash about this build.

88-91 differentials have a weak diff pin. Honda made them stronger for the 92-00, but not as strong as a OBX or Quaife LSD

OBX and Quaife LSDs =

basically you'll be fine unless you're running slicks and/or launching

i know that, I'm just curious.

I guess I better be careful then, lol.

Are you gonna be reproducing any of these parts? I think MANY of us would love to have a 3in. downpipe with stock crossmember

we have an in house fabrication shop, so yes we can reproduce manifolds, DPs, etc.

We have made a host of B/H/K series manifolds, headers, DPs, intake manifolds, Supra manifolds, etc.
