Default considering picking up a DC5

i recently finished paying off my 1998 ranger. and kbb on it is around $6300 but i can easily get rid of it for around $5500 and plan on picking up a 02-04 RSX and make payments. now i might just pick up a 5spd but im not sure, and im leaning that way if its a type-s. so my plans would be a comptech header with a custom 2.5 inch exhuast and a custom turned down muffler and intake lowered on TEIN S. tech springs, and newer DC5 rims. now is there anybody that has recently picked up a 02-04 that has problems from being used? TIA-

Later-

if its an early 02 model (not sure on the vin numbers) there was a tranny notchiness issue (type s) that many people had problems with. besides that, theres nothing major to worry about.

not just the 02 has the notchiness. I have it and its not a big deal. As long as your not ripping thru gears going to every stop light it dosnt happen. If your worried about dependability I would go with th RSX. I trade in my 05 GTI for my 02 RSX becauae I was having so many problems with it.

Heh...

"rh" in this context is a race header, meaning one that eliminates the catalytic convertor (thereby being a "race-only" part since it's not street legal). More specifically, since there's no more space taken up by a cat, a race header will also have longer primaries, and/or a completely different design from the stock "shorty" header.

You could also achieve most of the effect with less installation work by installing a test pipe, which is a plain pipe that goes in place of the cat.

Of course, the Mugen and JDM DC5 Type-R header-cat combos are 4-2-1 designs yet still have catalytic convertors.

Interesting thing to note: DC5's/EP3's have been known to pass exhaust sniffer tests -- legitimately, too, not by paying off the station -- with a race header and a good tune. These motors can burn that cleanly.

Just noticed that my post reads like I was addressing a total n0ob, but after re-reading your first in this thread, I think you've done a good chunk of research already... so take mine for what it's worth.. lol

i am also thinking of an rsx for my next car. well, its on my secondary list anyway; my primary list is full of new cars in the $30K range but i am considering some cheaper used cars to leave some mod money. there are 2 things that concern me:

1. theft rate of the integra. it ocupied something like 6 of the top 10 spots of stolen cars by the last count. how is the rsx's theft rate; i don't hear much about them stolen like the old car and the civic. for instance i rememebr seeing pictures of 100+ theft-recovered b16 engines at some san francisco warehouse once. is the security system just that much better, or does no one really care to steal the k20 like the did the b-series?

2. this almost seems like one of those cars you probably don't want to buy used. i had a wrx and finding a used one of those that hasn't been to hell and back is like finding a needle in a haystack. could a guy even find a non-modded type-s that's been driven by an ****-retentive bastard like myself?

yea i havent really found one not modded that is in good shape. my other choices are the BMW 330Ci, porsche 986, or even a used 350Z witch i test drove about a month ago and was very impressed with. the RSX-S would be a HELL OF ALOT CHEAPER to mod along with everyday maintinace, even though at the end of the day its still a honda.....thats what counts right?

but i think id have to drive a stock type-S to really consider it.

oh and im pretty damn sure the K-series motors will replace the B-series in the theft ratings.

How is insurance on them, relatively? Does the Type S take premium? Base?

you know, i hear everyone complaining about the extra cost of premium fuel. wherei live its a measly 10 cents over regular. 10 cents! that means if you put 12 gallons in your car you spent an extra buck twenty. you can blow that on something dumb like a soda

Sure, as long as the ECU doesn't throw an error code of any kind and the inspecting station doesn't do a visual check.
