I need to replace my tranny and I understand a Si tranny will work but only if you change parts like flywheel etc. Can someone please enlighten me on what tranny will bolt on to my stock HF without additional parts and what parts I would need if I install a Si tranny? Thanks for your help. I've been here long ebough so yes I searched.
its not an Si issue. its only your 88 flywheel that is undersized. you can fit a 88 Si tranny on your 88 Hf flywheel fine. or your can get a 90-91 flywheel to fit a 90-91 tranny.
the other thing is your clutch must match the splines on your tranny. and 88's have different spline count. 89-91 have the same spline count. so youll need a new clutch along with your tranny and flywheel if you get a later year tranny.

sorry guys. I just found out my HF has a 91 DX motor. I thought it was stock HF since it has Multi port still. So its a 91 DX motor, so that that mean any CRX tranny other than HF will fit??

well, because it really doesnt matter what engine you have anyway. whatever year, whatever model.
what matters is what flywheel is on that engine. the year of the flywheel specifically. any flywheel can fit on any engine.
that will matter what clutch you can use, or reuse. although you might as well buy a new clutch if youre swapping trannies.
and what clutch you use will matter what tranny you can use.
at worst, you just buy a new flywheel and clutch to match whatever tranny you get, and it only matters the year. DX and Si trannies are only different by the internal final drive. the axles will fit both.
get it?

yeah I got it. I have an excedy clutch (which came with car) and is in good shape so I want to avoid spending money on another set when I have a good one already. So if flywheel is 88-91 then a 88-91 tranny will work. Im starting to see your point.
well if the car was originally an 88 HF, then the tranny is still probably an 88 HF, right? so then it probably has the original 88 flywheel and clutch.
you just need to find out what you have and what youll need. what year is that exedy clutch for?
now you at least know what goes with what. and its not about the model of the car. its about the years.
