D-Series Build - Sound Good?
So I've gone from a DSM lover to a Honda enthusiast. Looking to buy a Honda shortblock and go from there, and once the motor is built to the extreme, put it in a '95 or older hatch. I've never touched a Honda before, althought I've drove a couple, so I'll need a little advice to get me started. I've talked to a couple people lately seeing what's recommended to do to a D15B2 shortblock, and what to do about a head. I already found a complete shortblock for $50 with low miles, so here's my plans for the bottom end and drivetrain...
- Bored .020 over
- Low comp. Vitara pistons
- Eagle rods
- ARP head studs
- Forged crank
- D16Z6 tranny w/ LSD
- ACT 2100 clutch
- Fidanza flywheel
And I also got some advice on what to do with the head, which is to buy a D16Z6 SOHC VTEC head and bolt it up. Along with a cam from Comp Cams, Skunk2 cam gear, and a nice port and polish.
And finally, here's my plans for turbo, fuel, and intake...
- DSM 14b turbo (For now)
- HF manifold w/ adapter plate
- FMIC w/ piping
- Blow off valve
- 3in downpipe
- FPR
- Stock manual DSM fuel injectors
- Individual throttle bodies
And one more thing, tuning/electrical...
- Boost guage
- Air/Fuel guage
- AFC
- D16Z6 wiring harness & ECU
So what do you think? Any advice will be appreciated.

Parts are more readily available for D16 blocks. Your timing will also be off by half a tooth with a D16 head on a D15 block...an adjustable cam gear takes care of that though. And the D15B2/Vitara/D16Z6 head will give you a compression ratio of 7.3:1. Not good. Just get a full D16Z6.
