JDM Mirrors Hooked up to the E-Brake
I know this has been slightly addressed in the official write up for JDM mirrors. What I am wondering is anyone has looked for a relay switch that would run off a constant power source to power the mirrors closed when the car is turned off and the e-brake is engaged?
I am going to be doing some research at the dealership and some other sources to see if I can make this work automatically. It may not be an OEM application, but I think it can be achieved.
Please let me know if this has been done already if it has been.
Thanks

Just thinking:
How does the power antenna work? IS it open only from a constant power source? Would you think it would be possible to reverse the wires for the opening and closing of the mirrors and then hook up what used to be the closed wire and is now the open wire to the ignition source. This way as long as the ignition wire had power the mirrors would be open. Then as soon as the ignition was turned off the mirrors would go back to the rest position of closed?
Just thinking out loud. No need for flaming. To me, the things that can't be done are just that way until someone figures out a way to do them.

if you use the stock relay box for the power folding mirrors. it only looks for a 12v pulse not a constant. so pulse once for out. and pulse once more for in. I suppose you can set up a chip that pulses once when you put the ebrake on and once when you put it off.
The mirrors them selves I believe use 12v for the motors. so you do power and ground for out and reverse them for in. (DO NOT QUOTE ME I am not positive) But just remeber the relay is made to sense when the current goes up so it shuts off power so it does not burn out the motor.
If you use the relay off of the antenna it wont have the right current sensing.
I am sure that someone on a more electrically based forum would know how to do this. many of the audio/computer/car forums have some pretty amazing people in them.
one of the easiest things is to use the pulse function off of an alarm.

if you are using the ebrake and setup some sort of pulse relay in between you have to remember the ebrake light is only on when the car is on, so you would have to always remember to put the ebrake on b4 you shut the car off. otherwise your mirrors would be open and then when you go to start the car the mirrors would close.

What you are saying is exactly opposite of what the official instal thread says. Have you installed the mirrors to know it is only a pulse? the official thread says you have to hold the button down to get the mirrors to shut. I also heard that if you use a civic relay box (5 Wire), you may have to hold the botton down to get the mirros to fold all the way. Does anyone know about this? Maybe the prelude relay (7 wire) is different.

I will install the relay tonight and I will let you know. the problem is that I don't have a multi meter down at school with me. so I have to hook it up to see if it works.

wrong wrong wrong.
, and yes i have done the install
you only hit the button once and it sends a pulse to the relay which is hooked up to a contant power that stays on long enough to open/close the mirrors

Relax their big dog.
I read what it said on this site and I am reading what you say. I am here, like most others, to learn and ask questions. Thanks for the answer. The question I have now is if the dash light signal from the E-Brake is strong enough to act as the triger signal to the relay? I guess I will find out eventually when I do the instal.
Thanks to all.

the problem is that the relay is looking for a pulse not a constant. so when the ebrake is on it would give a constant. it would not fold the mirrors shut when you shut off the ebrake.
do you have an alarm system? use the door lock actuator for a 12 volt pulse when you lock the car. the door locks lock and the mirrors close. when you unlock the doors... well obviously the opposite
Just installed the mirrors. and I love them. played with them like 30 times already.
its push open. push closed.
so its a pulse open and a pulse closed. and if they are going out and you hit it again it goes back in.
