Default Getting ready to do the k24 swap..

Ok I got a k24 long block from jhp and now have a few questions...

-What is the difference in heads from the k20a2 and k24 head??
-Is it worth it to do the k20a2 head swap??
-Will most parts for type s work on the k24 head??
-Will i be able to beat a type S? (current mods: Tanabe exhaust, Aem v2, tien ss, and falkens)

I was under the impression that the K20A2 head bolts straight on to the block.

from what i understand the k20a2 can handle higher revs but the k24 block isnt made for 8k so reliability comes into play, and the k24a2 (tsx) head flows better than the a2 head so if i were you i would sell your k20 head and use that money for cams and valve train, oh ya the k24a2 is also the only k24 that you can do the head swap on, the other ones have a slightly longer stroke, so they have interference problems (from what i hear) ive also read you can destroke the other k24's but then you end up with a k20 again so i would just use the head you got unless you are building it. theres also an rsx in one of the magazines this month that put down 250hp and 200ftlbs at the wheels with a k24 head and bottom. it had o.s. pistons stock compression and head work.... k24 rules all!!!

The K24A2 is not the only block you can use ... see image

You can use the K24 block with stock RSX-S head and internals. Yes the K24 bottom end is not meant for 8K rev's but I have seen block handle it quite a few times. As far as pulling on a Type S ... you will sure have a crap ton more torque down low which will get you going a lot faster. That setup will make great power all the way to redline and beyond ... just need to squeeze more revs out of the bottom end.

I've seen this swap work in person and have been in the car

On a side note ... the block/head combo sits a little higher than the K20A* motors ... there is a little rubbing on the hood (nothing major).

k20a2 and k24a2 are both vtec motors.
k24a1/3/4 are not vtec heads.
if you got a k24a1/3/4 motor, then yes the k20a2 head is needed for vtec.

And the k20a2 head flows better than the k24a2 head.

k242a2 is not the only motor that will accept the k20a2 head. the cr-v motor which is the k24a1 works as well. the k20a2 head will bolt right on to the cr-v block. ALL K24 motors have the same stroke of 99mm. the only reason the k20a2 head wont match the other k24 motors because of the stock pistons. they will have valve to piston contact. but it does bolt striaght on. you just need to change out pistons. to destroke a k24 motor, you need to get it customly done. it will not become a k20.
finally, if you got a k24a2 tsx motor/head then, there is no point of getting the k20a2 head. both have vtec, but the valve springs and seats needs to be changed if you decide to go with some aftermarket cams.

oh also the k24 motors have 19mm taller deck height.

Im sure you mean in the sense that the k24a1/3/4 have vtec on one cam instead of two. Because those motors are indeed equipped with Vtec. Just not on both cams, like the type s.

Would you mind telling me what "Real Vtec" is? Im J/K.....I know what you mean. The K20a2/k24a2 has i-vtec on both the intake and exhaust cam.

The K20a3/k24a1/4's i-vtec is more like the SOHC VTEC, the intake cam has only two lobes, one small and one larger, and no VTEC on the exhaust cam.
