Steering Boot ripped: Should I be worried?

I was driving down a mountain and everytime I turn left I would hear a metal on metal noise (sounds like the brake caliper rubbing against the rotor as it spins). I pulled over and noticed this yesterday. Should I be worried about this rip in the steering boot?

And do I need to change my brake pads? (they haven't made any squealing noises yet)
(sorry for the blurry pic, this was taken at night just now)

sorry, i don't know how bad the problem is. i've had one replaced before, it took the mechanic 15 minutes total. my other steering boot is ripped now, so i'm curious to see what people say.
your brake pads look like they have a lot left on them. rotor doesn't look so healthy on the top half.
bump.

i've never replaced it before and I have about 161k miles on it. How much would the whole inner tie rods and new boots cost me?

I never had any noises with mine....what do yours sound like....redescribe them and when they happen....
If you get the stuff from that (awesome) ebay seller worldsuspension.net, you can get a set of inner and outer tie rods for like 55 bux plus shipping, then get the boots from the dealer
that worldsuspension store has great deals on everything man.....when i get coilovers i'm hitting that up and replacing EVERYTHING....lol you can get a new upper arm with ball joint, lower ball joint, inner and outer tie rods, and new sway bar endlinks for less than $250 for both sides....what a deal....lol matt, stop fantasizing, you have no damn money

the best way to describe the sound is picture the sound of a rotor being resurfaced on a machine...that's exactly what it sounds like, which made me think my calipers were rubbing the rotors. But it only happens when i turn left (no sound when i turn right or go straight) and while I'm turning left, if I hit the brakes it goes away.

dude my car does this exact same thing, but its coming from the rear of the car. My theory is that is a loose brake pad that is rattling (which would explain why the noise goes away when you hit the brakes) or the metal dust shield behind it. Take it to a good suspension/brake shop and see what they say.

thanks guys, i'll pull the wheel off and look when I get the chance. From what i can see right now my pads look like they have enough to last some time and i dont see any interference between the brake dust cover and the rotor.
From the looks of that rotor, I'd double check the pads. The lower half of the pad might look okay, but the upper half might already be down to the back plate due to uneven pad wear from not being properly seated on the caliper piston. The rotor should be a full smooth surface. The scarring on the outer half of the rotor looks like something is rubbing into it?

ya see, i thought the rubbing of the outer part of the rotor came from the caliper and not the pads. at some points, it looked as if the rotor was touching the caliper. Those rotors used to have a little ridge on the end of it (i guess from being "warped").

still haven't had time to actually pull the wheel out and look but i took a couple more pics of it and it looks to me as if the calipers are rubbing on the rotors...what do you guys think?

Yes, that's bad. Change your rotors and pads.
My ps boot has been ripped for about 3 yrs now

mine does that also when i turn to the left but goes away when i hot the brakes or turn to the right, but my steering boot is fine. my rear calipers on the other hand are seized up and are rubbing all the time, but a honda-specialist I know said thats how the front is supposed to look like. I cant even put new pads on the rear because the calipers are stuck in the outward position. its very common on preludes

what's normal? the caliper rubbing against the rotor like that or the rear calipers seizing up?

Anyone have any comment on the boots? both passanger and driver side boots on my prelude are ripped....I went to the dealer and they quoted me somewhere around 40 bucks for each...I'm wondering how hard is it to replace them?

Ok, so I took apart my wheel and checked it out...it turns out that the screws on the rotor were a lil loose and on top of that, the hub and the knuckle looked like this. I was just wondering if the hub and the knuckle are supposed to be closer.
is this supposed to be this loose?
is this supposed to be this loose?
my bad, but yea its normal when the rear calipers seize up. my front look just liuke that and he said that they're supposed to be that close, but I dont think they're rubbing, just extremely close, prolly for better breaking reaction time
