Problem with my 89 crx dx
Ok my 89 dx has a few problems with it. The motor I have in the car is a jdm d15b. First for some reason i keep throwing a vss code (17) i dont really know why beauce everything looks to be ok with with wiring. Second, when im at a stop my car will rapidly go from 1 thou rpms to almost zero and back and forth. It sounds like it is going to die out. Any help with these problems would be great, thanks.
yo i had the exact same problem. make sure ur running the right ecu for ur car, cuz turns out i was a running an integra ecu when i needed crx. The integras run an electrical speed sensor, whereas the crx runs a mechanical so the CEL would always be on. i changed the ecus and bingo no more vss code

nooooo. why do people hate the main relay so much.
VSS probably isn't getting a signal from the dash to the ECU. There's a wire that runs between. Either your ECU Jumper has that wire mis-pinned or broken, or it's disconnected somewhere between your guage cluster and the ECU. You'll need to check this with a volt meter for continuity.
As for the "hunting" (idle surge) Try adjusting your idle screw. Then clean your IACV.
If you don't know what I'm talking about
download the service manual and go through the troubleshooting steps like it says:
